3. I have decided to create a final product based on a
Band that are associated in some way with the Music
Genre Rock. I have decided to do this, due to the fact
Rock is my favorite kind of music, and I believe that
this will enable me to create a product that is to the
best of my ability.
In terms of typical Genre Conventions of Rock Videos,
the footage is primarily based around a performing
band. However, I would like to create something that is
abstract and unlike anything else that is associated
with the Genre. In order for me to do this, I have
decided to pick the following band to work my final
piece around:

4. Twenty One Pilots are a Duo from Ohio who are known for the Alternative Hip Hop and
Elecropop elements they bring to the Rock Genre. As you can with their font at the top
of the page (taken from their latest album – Blurry Face) the band have a very well
established Brand Identity, and this theme often follows through with creations such
as Tour Posters, Social Media Posts and Images from Shows. It is recognizable amongst
the fans, and it shows that specific things are linked with the band.

9. After looking through the band’s discography, I have decided to select a track from the
‘Twenty One Pilots Self Titled’ release to create a music package for. I have decided this
because, with it being the first release from the band, some people are not as familiar
with the tracks compared to the ones from Vessel, and especially Blurry Face. Plus,
Regional at Best and Vessel are virtually the same. I also think that the self tiled album is
more abstract and unusual when compared to the rest; this is just my personal opinion
however. As well as all this, I admire the fact the band managed to self release something
as great as the self titled, and Self Titled is my favorite set of tracks from the band
overall.
In terms of the track for my video, I have narrowed my choices down to three songs that
I particularly like from the album, and they are:
1)Implicit Demand for Proof
2)A Car, A Torch, A Death
3)Addict with a Pen
I have selected these three tracks because I find them all to be quite sinister and deep
when it comes to meaning. This is the case for most of the album, but it stands out
mainly with these three tracks for me. These tracks also have long periods of
Instrumental in them, and I feel that it would be nice to work around this and focus
more so on the surroundings of my video; rather than the lip syncing of the artist.

When looking into the meaning of this track, along
with my own interpretation as well as other
people who have listened, I have came to the
conclusion that the song is referring to God, and
the song is asking for ‘Implicit Demand for Proof’
that he does exist. The band do come from a
Christian Background, so this would make sense.
Also, when the lyric ‘go ahead and show me your
face’ is sung, I believe that this is talking about
that mystery factor behind God, in the sense that
nobody is really sure what he looks like, never
mind if he actually exists. And the lyrics ‘I am
calling your lightening’ and ‘go ahead and make
me look away’ is referring to the powers that God
is seen to have. ‘I mean no respect, I am simply
very perplexed’ could be referring to that
unknown mystery about God; when the main
question arises ‘does God really exist?’.

The meaning to this track is slightly unclear
to me, but I have managed to pick out a
couple of factors based on the lyrics. I get
the impression that the context of the track
is to do with signs of affection towards
another human being (in this case, a female,
however it may be a family member, and
not necessarily significant other). Plus, the
lyrics ‘I began to understand why God died’
reminded me of Biblical references made
that God died because he loved the World;
and this could be in the context of that Tyler
has a lot of love for this certain individual.
This is a very hard song to interpret,
however I do really like it and I feel that it
would make an unusual video that is
completely impacted by my own
interpretation.

I solely get the impression with this
track that it is like a prayer, and Tyler
is talking to God through the lyrics. I
gathered this through the use of
words such as ‘Father’ and the way
Tyler refers to himself as a ‘Son’ to
this Father, which links to the fact
Religious views suggest that God is
the Father to everyone in the
Universe; and Tyler saying that he
hasn’t been the best of sons suggests
that he feels he has let God down in
some way. With regards to letting God
down, Tyler speaks about being ‘a
crazy suicidal head case’, and Suicide
is frowned upon in some parts of
Christianity.
