8. 1. HELEN KELLER (1880- 1968)
an American author, political activist and the first
deaf-blind person to earn bachelor's degree.
When she's 7 years old she met Anne Sullivan, a
teacher who helped her to recognize objects and
learn their names.
16 entered the Cambridge School for Young Ladies
and 4 years later admitted to Radcliffe College. She
became a well-known speaker and wrote her
autobiography at age 22, The Story of My Life.

N 1982)
Australian evangelist and
motivational speaker who
was born with phocomelia,
a condition in which a
person is born with no
legs or arms. In 2005, he
founded Life Without Limbs,
a non-profit organization
and ministry.
10. 3. ROSELLE AMBUBUYOG (BORN
1980)
First visually-impaired Filipino to graduate summa
cum laude from Ateneo de Manila University in 2001.
She lost her eyesight at the age of 6 due to an
illness.
Events that bring together "able" and "disabled" people
in the spirit of friendship and cooperation: World Down
Syndrome Day (March 21), World Autism Awareness
Day (April 2), and International Day of Persons with
Disabilities ( December 3).
