This document discusses intersubjectivity and how it relates to our interactions with others. Intersubjectivity refers to the shared understanding between individuals and is made possible by self-awareness and awareness of others. It involves acknowledging differences in others, appreciating their talents, and engaging in authentic dialogue. The document also examines philosophers' views on different levels of self-other awareness and provides examples of how intersubjectivity is demonstrated through empathy, ethics of care, and avoidance of alienation. It profiles several disabled individuals who overcame challenges through education and advocacy.

Interacting with Others
1. . INTERSUBJECTIVITY
Realize intersubjectivity requires accepting
differences and not to imposing others
.Appreciate the talents of persons with disabilities
and those from the underprivileged sectors of
society
.Explain that authentic dialogue means accepting
others even if they are different from themselves
.Perform activities that demonstrate the talents of
persons with disabilities and those from the
underprivileged sectors of society
2. INTERSUBJECTIVITY IN
PHILOSOPHY/PHILOSOPHERS
Refers to the shared awareness and
understanding among person. It is made
possible by the awareness of the self and the
others
more individuals (scheff,2006)
HOW DO WE AS HUMAN PERSONS
RELATE WITH OTHERS
•Our ability to engage in meaningful interactions
3. with other people, our surroundings, and
everything around us is rooted in our capacity for
self- awareness and transcendence. Interpersonal
relations are made possible when the self becomes
aware of the other, which includes everyone and
everything outside of the self.
EXAMPLE:
•You begin talking to your classmate, telling him or
her about a funny experiences you had in
school.•You begin talking on your desk, telling it
abou a
funny experiences you had in school.
Intersubjectivity also means “ a unique
4. relationship between distinct subject”. Refers
to the characteristics of the human person to
engage in a very intimate and personal
relationship with others who are different from
him or her but who are also like him or her.
PHILOSOPHERS IDENTIFY VARIOUS LEVEL
OF SELF- OTHER INTERACTION
•1. SIMPLE AWARENESS OF THE
EXISTENCE OF THE OTHERS
EXAMPLE:
When we see other people walking down the
5. street, we are aware that there are other beings
unique from us, and that they exist outside of our .
own awareness or perception.
2. AWARENESS OF THE SELF AS BEING
SEEN BY OTHERS
•EXAMPLE:
The people you are watching suddenly
stops and looks straight at you. You are
immediately
aware of this persons action as an other.
This stranger is looking at your direction.
Also, you are aware of another significant fact
– You
know that the stranger staring at you is aware of
6. you as a person
SEEMING
•Where an individual presents himself or
herself in a certain way when dealing with
others.
WHAT CHARACTERIZES A GENUINE
INTERACTION
•DIALOGUE
persons
acknowledge each others presence and treat each
other as equals
Dialogue is an interaction between persons that
happens through speech or the use of:
7. • WORDS
• EXPRESSION
• BODY LANGUAGE
A persons words , expression, and body
language become the means by which he or she.
is able to express a part of himself or herself
to another person.
Dialogue occurs when two person “open up” to
each other and give and receive one another in
their encounter
Genuine Dialogue occurs when persons are
willing to share themselves with one another
The awareness of each others presence as a
8. true person is define by the acceptance of each
others uniqueness and differences. When each
individuals enters into a dialogue with this
mindset, then it is truly a dialogue between
equals.
HOW DOES INTERSUBJECTIVITY DEFINE
OUR INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER
PERSONS
•EMPATHY
- the ability to share emotions
- is an aspect of intersubjectivity and is
driven by a persons awareness of the emotions
and
9. thoughts of other people. It enables a person to
place himself or herself in the shoes of others and
leads to a greater understanding and appreciate of
others
- Empathy enables us to experience another
persons emotions, such as happiness, anger, and
sadness.
•Sympathy is “Feeling with”
•Empathy is “Feeling In”
ETHICS OF CARE
- Is an ethical theory that emphasizes the moral
dimension of the relationship and interactions.
These moral perspective encourages
10. individuals to help other people, most especially
the
vulnerable
Proponents of the ethics of care believe
that people have a moral obligation to respond to
the
needs of other people, and one cannot turn of
blind
eye on the problems of other.
ALIENATION
- A person that adopts this negative view is said to
be experiencing alienation.
This arises when a person ceases to view the
other as a distinct and authentic personal and
merely considers the other person as a mere
object
11. or a means to satisfy personal interest.
EXAMPLE:
At your school cease to call each other
by their names and instead choose to highlight
their physical flaws. Those with dark skin will
be called “Negro or Negra” those with a speech
impediment will called “Ngongo” and those
lack of height will called “Pandak”
