While some research has found that multitasking reduces productivity and increases mistakes and stress, other studies have shown that some individuals are able to multitask effectively. Younger generations in particular may have developed skills to juggle multiple tasks and switch between them rapidly, allowing them to multitask productively. However, true simultaneous multitasking remains impossible, and frequent task-switching can still undermine focus and performance for many knowledge workers. Organizations should consider the costs and benefits of multitasking for different roles and individuals.
