Here are six key steps to creating a LinkedIn
profile if you are an audiologist:
1	Fill in both the Summary and Skills sections with your critical
skills and professional interests (e.g. Are you primarily interested in
vestibular testing? Do you enjoy working with pediatrics?). (Fig. 1)
2 Focus on the Experience section. (Fig. 2)
	 •	This is the perfect section to reflect the work and learning
from and previous work experiences. Either in a bulleted or
paragraph format, write two to three lines about your core
responsibilities or learnings. If you worked with specific
software, equipment or brands of hearing aids, include
this too!
	 •	Remember, just like a resume, you do not have to list every
single job you’ve had on LinkedIn. As professionals gain tenure
in their industry, they sometimes go back and remove some
outdated or unnecessary information from their profiles.
	 •	This section will always be changing- make sure to stay up-to-
date on the competencies you are achieving.
	 •	Make your profile public and set it to Full View so your LinkedIn
profile shows up in web search results.

LinkedIn™
is a place to create and maintain an online presence in the audiology world. You can add a headshot,
list your previous employers and job duties, connect with alumni of your Au.D. program and even write public
endorsements for peers. Creating a strong LinkedIn profile can lead to both long-term relationships with future
employers and continuous networking with peers. This is especially important in the audiology profession as
you attend conferences, maintain continuing education credits and network with other professionals.

3 Take time to connect with peers, professors, etc. (Fig. 3)
	 •	Connecting with others on LinkedIn is similar to “friending”
someone on Facebook®
. As you connect with more people, you
show up in other people’s feeds as “someone you might know.”
Never be afraid to connect with someone on LinkedIn that that
you’ve met in person; it’s a good way to stay in touch and have
easy access to contacting them in the future.
	 •	After attending a professional conference, make sure to spend
five to 10 minutes finding professionals you met and “connect”
with them.
4	Ask for a Recommendation from a peer, and write one for
someone else!
5	Upload a professional photograph (does NOT need to be a
headshot).
6 Join Groups of interest. (Fig. 4)
	 •	There are hundreds of Audiology focused groups on LinkedIn;
this is your chance to contribute to ongoing discussions and
stay up-to-date on industry information.
