MORE ABOUT LINE SEGMENTS-
1) If we have to make a line segment equal to the sum of
the length of the given line segments we have to mark
the points towards right side. e.g. we have two line
segments AB and CD ,the measure of AB is 4.1cm and CD
is of 2.5cm.So,firstly we have to make a line l and mark a
point P on it and now using a compasses or ruler mark a
point M on it whose measure should be equal to AB i.e.
4.1cm towards right . Now starting from M mark a point
Q on it whose measure should be equal to CD i.e.
2.5cm.So,PQ is a line segment equal to the sum of the
length of the line segment AB and CD.
PQ=AB+CD
2) To draw a line segment equal to the length of the
difference of the given line segments we have to mark
the points towards right side . e.g. we have two line
segments AB and CD, the measure of AB is 5.9cm and CD
is of 2.1cm.So, firstly we have to draw line l and mark a
point P on it and now using a compasses we have to
mark a point M on it at the distance of 5.9 cm i.e. equal
to AB towards right side. Now starting from point M
towards left side mark a point Q at the distance of 2.1cm
i.e. equal to CD using a compasses or ruler. So, PQ is a
line segment whose length is equal to the difference of
the length of AB and CD.
PQ=AB-CD
AMAZING FACTS-
1) Did you know that 2CD means CD+CD.
2) Did you know that 3AB means AB+AB.
3) There are 5 diagonals in a pentagon.
