Lights on Colombia
La Caféothèque - Paris
April 2nd
- 30th
2015
What is La Caféothèque?
Located in the very heart of Paris, La Caféothèque is a place devoted to coffee. But not
any coffee, it is the Coffee with capital letters, the one that requires commitment, great
attention and expertise. La Caféothèque works solely with traceable coffee: from the
farm all the way to the cup, we follow our product throughout every step of the
process. Additionally, ever since its’ beginnings in 2005, La Caféothèque has been
strongly faithful to its valuable philosophy: we say no to generic coffee, no to blends,
yes to a complete knowledge of the product and yes to continuous learning.
We import, store, roast, taste and sell our own coffee, either in a cup or packaged for
personal consumption.
La Caféothèque is also a Barista and “Sommelier” School from which more than a
hundred international coffee experts have graduated.
And finally, last but not least, La Caféothèque also serves a cultural purpose: it is a
space for exhibitions, conferences, screen projections and concerts; and the perk?
Coffee is always in the center of it all!
Lights on coffee-producing countries: The Concept
In order to celebrate our 10th
anniversary (2005-2015), we have chosen to honor the
countries and the people who provide us with the delicious coffee beans that delight
us each day.
For this purpose, we have selected some months throughout this year and each period
will be entirely dedicated to different coffee-producing countries. These special months
will not only allow us to discover the variety of coffees that each country proposes
(depending on its regions, its lands and on each coffee growers’ own process); but will
also bring to light the culture of each country: the conferences and the coffee tastings
led by experts will be accompanied by concerts, shows, typical food tastings, film
projections and an art exhibition by a local artist, who will be exposed during the whole
month.
Lights on Colombia
After the success we had with our Ethiopian Month this past January, La Caféothèque
continues with its world tour of coffee-producing countries and will land this coming
April in Colombia. With its theme “Lights on Colombia”, the purpose is to continue our
10th
anniversary celebration by revealing the Coffees of Origin.
Third coffee producer in the world and number one Arabica producer, Colombia is a key
country in the international coffee scene. Who doesn’t know the famous Juan Valdez
and his loyal mule, Conchita?
Nowadays, Colombia is gaining ground with Specialty Coffees by developing its
research on the innovative and diverse coffee growing procedures inherited from
indigenous tradition.
In 2011, UNESCO classified the “Coffee Cultural Landscape” of Colombia as “World
Heritage”; this highlights the wonders and values of a culture created upon the
Colombian Coffee Triangle since the XIXth century.
Furthermore, La Caféothèque will allow its visitors to discover the varied aspects of
Colombian culture, through the cultural programming for the Month of Colombia.
Our expert in Cundinamarca’s permaculture, Carlos Arturo Arévalo, will lead workshops
and coffee tastings; also, every Thursday of April, a special event will take place: our
audience will be part of an Afro-Colombian music concert, taste Colombian food, and
enjoy a good Colombian movie session. On top of this, our boutique will be filled with
Colombian goodies: handmade candy accompanied of our exclusively selected
Colombian coffee.
