Build Consumer-Facing Apps with Heroku ConnectJeff Douglas
This document discusses Heroku Connect, a service that provides bi-directional data sync between Salesforce and Heroku Postgres. It allows developers to more easily build customer-facing apps by leveraging familiar tools like Postgres and standard workflows while keeping data secure in Salesforce. Heroku Connect works by synchronizing data for standard or custom objects using timestamps to detect changes and implementing a "last writer wins" approach. It automatically maps objects and tables during setup. Best practices include updating mappings for deleted fields and being careful of validation rules or required fields on insert.
The document discusses Lightning implementation and provides guidance on adopting Lightning. It recommends assembling an adoption team, conducting discovery activities like evaluating org readiness and business processes, and creating a rollout plan with a persona-based approach. The rollout plan should include iterative development and testing. It also discusses migrating from Visualforce to Lightning components and avoiding technical debt. Change management activities like training, communications, and executive buy-in are also recommended.
This presentation introduces Lightning Components in Salesforce. Lightning Components are reusable blocks that can be dragged and dropped onto Lightning pages to customize pages. The presentation highlights some key component types and where they are used. Specific components are spotlighted, including Related Records to display related record details, and Report Chart to add charts to pages. A demo case is shown for a customer who wants to use components to conditionally display information and enforce a validation rule. Additional resources for learning more about Lightning Components are also provided.

Reports & Dashboards
Many business processes involve exporting Salesforce reports for further analysis in a 3rd party tool - Lightning supports this important capability.
For reports that are used by multiple people, collaboration on the report is key. With the Chatter Feed now enabled for Lightning Reports you can share and discuss reports directly on the Reports page. And, of course, you can collaborate on the dashboards themselves. And, if needed, you can easily export all of those reports.
“The Lightning Report Builder….”
Calendar & Tasks - We all use calendars all the time. They are a critical part of productivity for all sales reps and for anyone in any business. The Calendar in Lightning currently lets you see all of your Salesforce Events in a calendar view, and you can also create new appointments in your calendar which will automatically show up as Events in Salesforce.
Inline Edit on List Views - Edit your sales information quickly and easily on the page! Quickly modify records on a single page and make the same change to multiple records.
Kanban Views on all Objects - The Kanban View has received a ton of positive feedback and Salesforce has recently extended this cool functionality to more objects! They’ve rolled out Kanban for all standard objects as well as Custom Objects.
Integrated Email – Salesforce has better integrated email into the sales process. Over the past few releases, they’ve increased email capabilities in Salesforce with better email integration (Send through Gmail/Office365), a whole new Email UI and Email Object (Enhanced Email), and reply & forward.
Opportunity Workspace – help close deals faster “and serve customers better” by providing helpful and relevant tools, including Sales Path.
