Ambient Lighting
These two spaces are show how light can be soft in any area. The first is in the bedroom where you
might want softer lighting because it is a place to calm down and get ready for sleep. I like how the walls
are very vibrant in shapes and patterns but the lighting makes them not seem as overwhelming. This
kitchen has this amazing brick ceiling with a built in light around the trim. I really like this kitchen because
I think it shows that you can have ambient lighting but still have sufficient lighting for a work area. It really
creates a eniorment of peace and softness.
Task Lighting
I think that most assume that task lighting is a harsh bright light used to illuminate a
work place but I think that it could be used in a effective way but still fits in the room.
The first picture is of a kitchen where the benches are illuminated by light underneath
the cabinets. This really helps with doing work on the benches because it brings direct
light but it isn’t a harsh, awkward light. The next picture is of a office and the task
lighting is far above the desk but it still functions the same. I liked this because it wasn’t
a simple desk lamp but it still worked just as good. Also the lamps provide a better light
for the entire desk.
Accent Lighting
This shows that accent can apply to many areas. This first picture accents the pictures
in the hallway but I think it also accents the wall. The wall is this stone which can’t be
seen well in normal light but the accent highlight the picture and the wall. I think it
brings a strong contrast in textures in the hallway since it is all one color but with the
lighting we can see the difference in the floor and wall. It also shows the subtle
differences in the stone. The next picture accents the curving ceiling. It shows the
movement of the line and how it curves around the column. It brings a sense of
movement having the light flow throughout the entire ceiling.
