This is a brief look at 3 brave Filipinos, separated by hundreds of years but all fought agains foreign powers and reprsented the country in the world arena of brave men. Filipinos had been under Spain for almost 400 years, under America for almost 45 years, under Japan for 3 years, and under its own aristocratic governements for almost 60 years now. We remember these heroes for fighting for Filipino identity and sovereignity over its land and its people. When will we ever achieve the freedom of our spirit that we have longed for? When will we ever think less of ourselves and more of our country? What will be our contribution as a people of the world? May the memories of these 3 brave men light our paths toward a future where Filipinos stand shoulder to shoulder with the best of the world.

Muhammad
Muhammad (Arabic: محمد; CE 570 – 8 June 632 CE)[1] was an
Arabian religious and political leader. Muslims and Baha'is believe he
was a messenger and a prophet of Allah (God). He is believed to be a
descendant of Ishmael, a son of Abraham, and a seal to all prophets. He
is seen as an example for all Muslims to follow.

This piece of ABC propaganda aired nearly ten years ago, but still brings a good laugh for those with an IQ larger than their shoe size. Life in the desert part 1
1. Dominique Frazier
23/02/11
Honors 9
Journal Entry
Life in the Desert
Dear Journal,
Here is a little bit about me. My name is Afreen, meaning Brave. My Aunt Aamaal told me my deceased mother gave me the name, because she wanted me to live a long healthy life unlike she could. She died while giving birth to me. My Aunt Aamaal dislikes bringing up the subject, I do as well. It’s a touchy subject for the both of us. I grew up in a moving caravan, with my best friend, Muhammad. Despite him being six years older, we got along fairly well, looked after each other, and even did everything together. Everything changed when Muhammad became know as the famous Prophet though.
610 B.C.-
Dear Journal,
It was late at night, and the cavarn had taken a stop for the night by a mountain. As I was setting up the camp, I couldn't help but notice the strain on Muhammad's face. He was a bit pale, and sweating a bit. I asked,
quot;
Muhammad, are you ok? Your paling over, did you catch something?quot;
He replied in a tired tone,
quot;
No, I'll be fine don't worry. I'm going to go take a walk. Tell the others that I will be back soon.quot;
I nodded my head, and didn't ask anymore questions. It wasn't my place to be out of line, so I went back to my duties.
After awhile I noticed how late is was becoming, not to mention cold. The wind picked up, and whistled in my ear. The sound of the wind sounded desperate, as if it was crying. I hugged my hijab closer to my body, standing next to the camp fire. There still was no sign of Muhammad, and everyone had fallen asleep. I heard a twig snap, and swiftly turned around staying on guard. Muhammad came stumbling out of the bushes, and I rushed to his aid. He had tears cascading down his face, scratches and tears decorated his body and clothing, and his body was violently trembling. Muhammad grabbed my hands and wept,
quot;
My dear Afreed, our dear god Allah has spoken to me. I do not know what this means.quot;
He kept repeating in a trembling voice, quot;
he's spoken to me, why?quot;
. I stood there mouth wide open, it was hard to believe this. I held Muhammad in the night, as he told me everything.
622 B.C.-
Dear Journal,
It has been twelve long hard years since Muhammad's first prophecy. He's had plenty more, all different and fascinating. With all of those sleepless nights, and tending to Muhammad was worth it. I would rather take care of Muhammad then any other man. Muhammad has begun preaching what Allah has shared with him. Many people have started following Muhammad and his ways. The population of his crowds grow with each meeting they have.
He's accomplished so much, Muhammad is a religious, polictical, and a military leader. So many people look up to Muhammad now. I attend all of his meetings, and copy down his words.I'm proud to be by Muhammad's side. I'm proud of Muhammad.
632-633 B.C-
Dear Journal,
It has been two years after the war with the Muslims. Many lives have been lost in the past few years, such as one of Muhammad's wife, Khadija. Soon after, Muhammad himself died. He was poisoned after his attack upon the Jewish settlment, Khaibar. The attack was a lost for our people. Muhammad came back ashamed.
One night, after dinner Muhammad was sick. He had been food poisoned. Only problem was I couldn't find the culprit, there was more then one chef that night. It wasn't log after that Muhammad died a terrible death. With his death came so much sorrow. The people lost their prophet, a great leader, a man we all looked up too.
633-634 B.C.-
Dear Journal,
After Muhammad's death the people were in chaos. There was no leader, and the people depended greatly on Muhammad for help. He had left no one to take his place. The people were always in sorrow. Muhammad's succesor was uncertain, the only canidates were his couisn, Ali, and a the A'isha's (one of Muhammad's wifes) father, Abu Bakr. The one to be finally elected was Abu Bakr.
Abu Bakr was a magnificent leader, he conquered all of Egpyt, Palestine, Syria, Mesopotamia, and Persia. This was the mark of a new beginning, the people didn't have to worry anymore. This period was one of the best since the death of an old friend.
656 B.C.-
Dear Journal,
The years have seemed to slow down, and gotten sadder. So many wars, blood spilt, deaths. Ulthman our third Caliphate was just murdered not too long ago. Ali and Mu'awiya were debating over who should be the next leader. So the council was involved, and use the Qu'Ran to settle it. The council decided they should both step down. Ali was displeased with their decision, and refused.
Ali demanded that he became he next Caliphate. Which started a civil war. Many people have died under the hands of two of Muhammad's and mine's friend, innocent citizens, and so forth. The Kharijities, allies of Ali, were upset and thought it should be decided by God. Since the both Ali and Mu'awiya refused to become alliances, the Khrajities appointed their own Caliph. Honestly, all of this fighing was ridiculous to me. Just if there was a to resolve it all, but that would be too easy.
