  Us
  Right”

FOCUS:

  How
  God
  uses
  our
  faith
  in
  Christ
  to
  make
  us
  right

1. Think
  for
  a
  moment
  of
  a
  trial
  where
  a
  person
  who
  was
  obviously
  guilty
  was
  set
  free.

How
  did
  that
  make
  you
  feel?

2. In
  your
  opinion,
  what
  traits
  are
  necessary
  for
  a
  great
  judge?

3. Describe
  a
  time
  when
  you
  felt
  guilty
  when
  you
  were
  not
  guilty.

Read:

  Romans
  3:22-26

  This
  righteousness
  is
  given
  through
  faith
  in
  Jesus
  Christ
  to
  all
  who
  believe.
  There
  is
  no

difference
  between
  Jew
  and
  Gentile,

23
  for
  all
  have
  sinned
  and
  fall
  short
  of
  the
  glory
  of
  God,

  24
  and
  all
  are
  justified
  freely
  by
  his
  grace
  through
  the
  redemption
  that
  came
  by
  Christ

Jesus.

25
  God
  presented
  Christ
  as
  a
  sacrifice
  of
  atonement,
  through
  the
  shedding
  of
  his
  blood—
to
  be
  received
  by
  faith.
  He
  did
  this
  to
  demonstrate
  his
  righteousness,
  because
  in
  his

forbearance
  he
  had
  left
  the
  sins
  committed
  beforehand
  unpunished—

26
  he
  did
  it
  to
  demonstrate
  his
  righteousness
  at
  the
  present
  time,
  so
  as
  to
  be
  just
  and
  the

one
  who
  justifies
  those
  who
  have
  faith
  in
  Jesus.

1. There
  are
  some
  big
  words
  with
  great
  meaning
  in
  these
  verses
  so
  let’s
  take
  some

time
  to
  figure
  them
  out.

  Simplify
  the
  words
  below?

  A.

  What
  is
  righteousness?

B.
  What
  is
  justification?

C. What
  is
  redemption?

D. What
  is
  atonement?

2. What
  do
  these
  verses
  tell
  us
  about
  God’s
  love
  for
  us?

3. Why
  couldn’t
  God
  just
  grant
  amnesty
  for
  our
  sins
  instead
  of
  the
  cross?

4. Why
  do
  you
  think
  Christians
  often
  feel
  guilty
  more
  than
  accepting
  the

declaration
  of
  “not
  guilty”
  from
  God?

  How
  do
  we
  help
  them
  change
  their

viewpoint?

5. How
  does
  being
  right
  with
  God
  create
  a
  desire
  within
  you
  to
  share
  Jesus
  with

others?

6. What
  other
  points
  from
  the
  sermon
  did
  you
  find
  helpful
  and
  encouraging?

Reflect

1. Communion
  is
  a
  great
  time
  to
  meditate
  upon
  the
  truths
  of
  Romans
  3:22-‐26.

Communion
  is
  a
  time
  of
  celebration
  as
  we
  reflect
  upon
  how
  God
  makes
  us
  right

through
  our
  faith
  in
  Christ
  Jesus.

2. Claim
  the
  promises
  in
  these
  verses
  and
  quit
  feeling
  guilty
  as
  a
  Christian
  and
  learn
  to

enjoy
  the
  justification
  I
  have
  in
  Christ.
