Today’s Lesson:
God’s Provision for Redemption
Exodus 19-40; LEVITICUS
The Chief End of Man:
Glorify God and enjoy Him
forever.
~Westminster Catechism
2 Timothy 3:16 -17
All scripture is breathed out
by God and is profitable for
teaching, reproof,
correction and training in
righteousness, that the man
of God would be equipped
for every good work.
A text cannot mean what it never could have meant to its
author or his or her readers. ~Jen Wilkin
LEVITICUS 16:1 (SPURGEON STUDY BIBLE NOTES) 16:1
“THE LORD SPOKE TO MOSES.” IF WE MAY EVER SET
ANY PORTION OF SCRIPTURE BEFORE ANOTHER, THIS
IS ONE OF THE MOST PRECIOUS CHAPTERS IN THE
WHOLE COMPASS OF REVELATION AND, IN SOME
RESPECTS, THE MOST REMARKABLE OF ALL. IT IS SO
FULL OF WONDERFULLY DEEP TEACHING THAT,
INSTEAD OF A SERMON, IT MIGHT REQUIRE A
VOLUME. AND THEN, PERHAPS, WE WOULD
SCARCELY HAVE DONE MORE THAN SKIM THE
SURFACE. ~CHARLES SPURGEON, 1856
ROMANS 7:7 (ESV)
THE LAW AND SIN
7 WHAT THEN SHALL WE SAY? THAT THE LAW IS
SIN? BY NO MEANS! YET IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR
THE LAW, I WOULD NOT HAVE KNOWN SIN. FOR I
WOULD NOT HAVE KNOWN WHAT IT IS TO COVET
IF THE LAW HAD NOT SAID, “YOU SHALL NOT
COVET.”
Key Concept:
God provided
the sacrificial
system for His
people’s sins to
be forgiven
and atoned for.
Key Concept:
God provided
the sacrificial
system for His
people’s sins to
be forgiven
and atoned for.
HOW WOULD YOU:
PRAY
ACT
SPEAK
THINK
DIFFERENTLY IF YOU
APPROACHED THE LORD
AFTER ARRON’S SONS?
Key Concept:
God provided
the sacrificial
system for His
people’s sins to
be forgiven
and atoned for.
ROMANS 7:7 (ESV)
THE LAW AND SIN
7 WHAT THEN SHALL WE SAY? THAT THE LAW IS
SIN? BY NO MEANS! YET IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR
THE LAW, I WOULD NOT HAVE KNOWN SIN. FOR I
WOULD NOT HAVE KNOWN WHAT IT IS TO COVET
IF THE LAW HAD NOT SAID, “YOU SHALL NOT
COVET.”
ROMANS 3:23-26 (ESV)
23 FOR ALL HAVE SINNED AND FALL SHORT OF THE
GLORY OF GOD, 24 AND ARE JUSTIFIED BY HIS
GRACE AS A GIFT, THROUGH THE REDEMPTION
THAT IS IN CHRIST JESUS, 25 WHOM GOD PUT
FORWARD AS A PROPITIATION BY HIS BLOOD, TO
BE RECEIVED BY FAITH. THIS WAS TO SHOW GOD’S
RIGHTEOUSNESS, BECAUSE IN HIS DIVINE
FORBEARANCE HE HAD PASSED OVER FORMER
SINS. 26 IT WAS TO SHOW HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS AT
THE PRESENT TIME, SO THAT HE MIGHT BE JUST AND
THE JUSTIFIER OF THE ONE WHO HAS FAITH IN
JESUS.
Key Concept: God provided the sacrificial system for His people’s sins to be forgiven and atoned for.
What role can/should grace and
mercy play in your marriage this
week?
What has Christ atoned for that
you need to let go of in your
marriage?
How can your spouse participate in
your sanctification this week?
How should your love for Christ manifest itself
in your marriage during this season of life?
PSALMS 32:1-4 (ESV)
BLESSED ARE THE FORGIVEN
A MASKIL OF DAVID.
1 BLESSED IS THE ONE WHOSE TRANSGRESSION IS FORGIVEN,
WHOSE SIN IS COVERED.
2 BLESSED IS THE MAN AGAINST WHOM THE LORD COUNTS NO INIQUITY,
AND IN WHOSE SPIRIT THERE IS NO DECEIT.
3 FOR WHEN I KEPT SILENT, MY BONES WASTED AWAY
THROUGH MY GROANING ALL DAY LONG.
4 FOR DAY AND NIGHT YOUR HAND WAS HEAVY UPON ME;
MY STRENGTH WAS DRIED UP AS BY THE HEAT OF SUMMER. SELAH
PSALMS 32:5-7 (ESV)
5 I ACKNOWLEDGED MY SIN TO YOU,
AND I DID NOT COVER MY INIQUITY;
I SAID, “I WILL CONFESS MY TRANSGRESSIONS TO THE LORD,”
AND YOU FORGAVE THE INIQUITY OF MY SIN. SELAH
6 THEREFORE LET EVERYONE WHO IS GODLY
OFFER PRAYER TO YOU AT A TIME WHEN YOU MAY BE FOUND;
SURELY IN THE RUSH OF GREAT WATERS,
THEY SHALL NOT REACH HIM.
7 YOU ARE A HIDING PLACE FOR ME;
YOU PRESERVE ME FROM TROUBLE;
YOU SURROUND ME WITH SHOUTS OF DELIVERANCE. SELAH
PSALMS 32:8-11 (ESV)
8 I WILL INSTRUCT YOU AND TEACH YOU IN THE WAY YOU SHOULD GO;
I WILL COUNSEL YOU WITH MY EYE UPON YOU.
9 BE NOT LIKE A HORSE OR A MULE, WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING,
WHICH MUST BE CURBED WITH BIT AND BRIDLE,
OR IT WILL NOT STAY NEAR YOU.
10 MANY ARE THE SORROWS OF THE WICKED,
BUT STEADFAST LOVE SURROUNDS THE ONE WHO TRUSTS IN THE LORD.
11 BE GLAD IN THE LORD, AND REJOICE, O RIGHTEOUS,
AND SHOUT FOR JOY, ALL YOU UPRIGHT IN HEART!
