THE ENGINEERING & CONSTRUCTION SECTOR GETS BIGGER BY THE DAY,nibtedu
As discussed earlier, BIM incorporates every bit of technology, devices, and software,
it provides a great opportunity for owners, architects, cost managers,
project managers, BIM modelers, etc. to leverage software to author 3D models,
create schedules, quantity take-offs, cost-estimation, determine clashes, etc.
Industry 4.0 or the fourth industrial revolution, which has been introduced by German government in 2012 [1], which is depends on the integration of different categories of electrical and electronic devices, from personal computers, smartphones, smartwatches, machinery robotics and enterprise resource planning systems, which can be integrated together and communicated with others to analyse the optimal criteria of potential solutions for improving productivity via internet [2]. however, the requirements of the new technology will force the old technology to retired. which will will force the big companies to change the specification of the industrial components to keep up with the latest processors. Ultimately, the goal of Industry 4.0 is to produce smarter and resource-efficient factories which are more productive and competitive says Mika Lomax [3]. Which mean that the Devices are getting smarter. "Not only does the IIoT enable real-time monitoring on smartphones and via emails, but, in plants, everyone has LCDs (liquid-crystal displays), TV screens and marquees showing the production staff useful information," says Kumar. "The technology in the modern HMI, including drivers and connectivity, is moving to message displays and marquees. This will enable programming and monitoring in these smart displays. Technology is pushing PLC and HMI functionality to text displays and it will all be connected to the IIoT."[4] The characteristics of high-technology industries include steady order quantities, standardized product features and high product value [3].
The construction management industry is leveraging technology to enhance efficiency, boost quality, and lower costs. Several trends in construction management are worth noting, as they are certain to continue to shape the industry in the coming years.
Top 4 construction obstacles and how technology can be a transformational sol...iFieldsmart Technologies
The construction industry has been plagued by a series of challenges through the years. Connecting the back office with the job site has been one of the most crucial obstacles for a major section of the construction sector. The use of data did transform the construction process to a certain extent, but, managing or manipulating data does require software-driven technology to stream and use information in real-time. From leveraging updated drawings in the field to storing AR/VR files, managing RFIs and Submittals to Task and Schedule management, and more, construction management technology is key to improving construction workflows.
The following blog details 4 top construction challenges and the use of technology to solve these issues.
1. PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE INDUSTRY SUPPLY CHAIN.
The augmented shortage of the present-day supply chain has elevated project costs in terms of construction materials and job site waste. Rework leading to material waste can drown time and profits. Delayed logistics to get the material and components onsite produce situations leading to cost and time overruns. Material costs and time taken to erect a building take up a majority of the construction costs. Poor project planning without construction management platforms drives AEC firms to be cash flow negative. Errors created on the field through uncoordinated processes and deliverables are damaging for a project and firm.
Data-driven software technology has supported a myriad of global firms with accurate, complete, and updated information through real-time data streaming on a single dashboard. Analytics and reports generated on a cloud-based platform ensure the right amount of materials are purchased for onsite construction and delivered on time to the field to mitigate downtime.
Monitor your financial health from one source of truth.
2. QUICK TURN AROUND TIME IS A POSITIVE TOUCHSTONE FOR CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS.
Preconstruction planning can lead to a series of field visits, onsite meetings, and project revisions. These processes cost a lot, and could also lead to unnecessary costs if not planned appropriately. Taking field measurements driven by automation can lead to improved results in comparison to manual or traditional methods. Taking 360 pictures of the site and comparing it with 3D models and drawings can drive higher productivity, reduce field risks, and improve project adjustments.
iFieldSmart Technologies offer a myriad of capabilities to resolve project pain points. Being able to store, process, and manipulate data within the construction management dashboard helps reduce field visits, the frequency of unnecessary meetings, and costly revisions. With unlimited data storage on a cloud platform, project teams can upload large-size files making the process hassle-free.

A Bibliometric Review of the Evolution of Building Information Modeling (BIM)...Khaled gharib
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a powerful tool that
allows architects, engineers, and construction professionals to
create detailed 3D models of buildings, which contain a wealth
data about the physical characteristics and attributes of the
project, one of the key benefits that it allows stakeholders to
visualize the project in great detail, which can help identify
potential problems or inefficiencies before construction even
begins. However, BIM data is static and does not reflect
changes or updates that occur after construction is complete.
As the construction industry continues to modernize, Building
Information Modeling (BIM) has become a staple in the design
and construction phases of a project. The widespread adoption
of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and the recent
emergence of Internet of Things (IoT) applications offer several
new insights and decision-making capabilities throughout the
life cycle of the built environment. In recent years, the ability of
real-time connectivity to online sensors deployed in an
environment has led to the emergence of the concept of the
Digital Twin of the built environment. This is where the concept
of the digital twin has emerged to revolutionize the way
buildings are managed and operated throughout their entire
lifecycle. A digital twin is a virtual replica of a physical asset or
system that incorporates real-time data from sensors and other
sources, by connecting BIM models to IoT sensors and other
data sources, it is possible to create a dynamic digital twin that
can provide real-time insights into the performance and
condition of a building. Overall, the integration of BIM and IoT
into digital twins offers a powerful tool for designers, engineers,
and building managers to optimize the performance and
efficiency of buildings. This paper conduct a bibliometric review
over the evolution of BIM to DT, examining the benefits of each
technology and how Digital Twin expand on the capabilities of
BIM. The paper also will discuss Digital Twin and BIM in the
industry, discussing real-world applications and the tangible
benefits that organizations have experienced. Ultimately, this
paper highlights the importance of embracing new
technologies like Digital Twins to achieve optimal efficiency and
cost savings in the building industry

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
