The first Norwich market place was located in Tombland and served as a trading hub for local produce and goods from across Europe in the Saxon era. The Normans later moved the market to its current location outside the city walls to accommodate more traders. Today's modernized market continues to sell local produce and other goods, and is located between several banks and shops. A new shopping center was also built in 2005 to expand the commercial options in Norwich.
