This document discusses how a Trump presidency may impact Dodd-Frank, the CFPB, and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Experts believe Dodd-Frank likely won't be fully repealed due to parts being integrated into the financial system, but targeted changes could replace the CFPB director and weaken its enforcement powers. GSE reform proposals have stalled in Congress due to Republican philosophical divisions. Trump may kick reforms down the road or back recapitalizing and releasing Fannie and Freddie from government control.

The settlement is part of efforts by the Department of Justice and Procurement Fraud Task Force to ensure integrity in government contracting.
The future of the legal marijuana industry under the Trump administration is uncertain. While legal marijuana has brought economic benefits to Colorado through tax revenue and jobs, those involved in the industry remain unsure how the federal government will approach enforcement of marijuana laws. The industry is projected to continue growing rapidly over the next few years if the federal government does not crack down on the increasing number of states legalizing marijuana.
This document provides a summary of key issues likely to be priorities for President-elect Donald Trump's first 100 days in office based on an analysis by Brunswick Group. It finds that Trump will likely work with a Republican-controlled Congress to repeal the Affordable Care Act, lower corporate taxes, reduce financial and environmental regulations, boost oil and gas production, and withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement. However, progress may be slowed by Democratic opposition in the Senate and Trump will need to determine whether to govern as a partisan or seek bipartisan cooperation.

Northeast Florida Democrats just can't break through _ jacksonvilleDavid Hunt
The Democratic Party in Northeast Florida is struggling to gain traction and break through Republican dominance in local and state elections. Democrats outnumber Republicans in voter registration in the area, yet Republicans control most local and state offices. The Democratic "brand" in the region is seen as "broken" due to years of losing elections. Some observers believe this defeatist image discourages good candidates from running as Democrats. Local Democratic leaders acknowledge challenges like high unemployment and issues with the federal stimulus package but believe voters' frustration with politicians could help Democratic challengers by making incumbents vulnerable. However, the region continues to see more Democrats switching to the Republican Party than vice versa.

This document summarizes recent developments in antitrust enforcement and investigations. It notes that in 2012, the DOJ obtained over $1 billion in criminal antitrust fines, driven by large fines against companies involved in price fixing for auto parts and LCD screens. It predicts that the investigations into auto parts and alleged rigging of LIBOR interest rates will remain active areas in 2013 and potentially yield further prosecutions and penalties. While 2012 saw record fines, fewer new criminal antitrust cases were actually filed compared to 2011.

The Fix
How Citizens United
changed politics, in 7
charts
By Chris Cillizza January 22, 2014
Four years ago today, the Supreme Court issued the Citizens United ruling, a case that has drastically re-shaped the political landscape in its relatively short life span.
President Obama condemned it in his 2010 state of the union address, Democrats tried, unsuccessfully, to make the 2010 midterms about it, and it played no small
part in making the 2012 presidential election by far the most expensive in American history.
So, what hath Citizens United -- which, in short, allowed corporations and labor unions to spend unlimited funds on direct advocacy for or against candidates -
actually wrought? Here are six charts -- many thanks to WaPo's Matea Gold for her help -- that tell the story. Got a favorite chart that details the impact of Citizens
United? Send it my way at [email protected] and I will add it to the post.
1. This chart details all spending by outside groups from 1990-2014. The surge in 2012 is obvious but compare outside spending in the 2006 midterms (pre Citizens
United) vs outside spending in the 2010 midterms (post Citizens United). Big difference.
2. Here's a look at all outside group spending through Jan. 21 (aka today) of an election year. Spending at this point in the 2014 cycle is already almost three times as
much as it was at this time in the 2010 election. And it's 25 times more than at this point in the 2006 election.
3. Conservatives have a far better organized and financed outside operation than do liberals. It's also worth noting that Republicans had a contested presidential
primary in 2012 with vast sums spent by a handful of individuals to elect their preferred candidate, skewing the numbers below a bit.

4. That GOP organization/fundraising advantage translates into more TV ads when it matters. The chart below -- courtesy of CMAG/Kantar Media -- tracks the raw
number of ads run by candidates, party committees and outside groups beginning 130 days before the 2010 and 2006 elections. It's no mistake that the red
(Republican) line soared between 2006 and 2010 while the blue (Democratic) one stayed largely steady.
5. While the soaring spending on elections -- by unions, corporations and individuals -- is well known by this point, what is less well understood is how Citizens
United drove massive amounts of cash into the non-profit political world, a world where disclosure is not required. This chart details the over $300 million spent by
outside groups with no disclosure of donors.
6. And this one shows the rapid drop in the amount of donor disclosure by outside groups.
7. This chart, courtesy of Brendan Doherty, a political ...

This presentation explains a predictive data modeling project that segmented Colorado's 3.5 million voters into 11 groups. The segmentation enables campaign decision makers the ability to understand and target voters beyond data that is is available on a Colorado voter file.
Colorado voters strongly oppose cuts to Social Security benefits. 71% oppose cuts to reduce the federal deficit, with 66% strongly opposing. Voters also oppose raising the retirement age, reducing cost-of-living adjustments, and lowering benefits for those earning over $60,000. However, 67% support requiring Social Security taxes on all wages over $106,800. Voters say they are less likely to support candidates who want to cut Social Security to reduce the deficit.

The document provides sample communications for a hypothetical non-profit organization, Connect to Prosper, to use during a "Week of Web Action" advocating for greater regulation of broadband internet access. The sample materials include:
1) Two draft emails to be sent to CTP's supporter lists, one general and one targeted at constituents of key Congressional committee members, urging them to take action before an upcoming vote.
2) Sample social media posts for Twitter and Facebook promoting the Week of Web Action and encouraging supporters to contact their representatives.
3) Background on the issue and hypothetical scenario setting up the need for the advocacy campaign in the lead up to a Congressional committee vote that could reclassify broadband as a public utility
This document describes a proposed political polling platform called The Fourth Branch. It aims to provide more accurate and real-time polling of constituents' views on legislation compared to traditional methods. Anyone with internet access can join and read summaries of bills, discuss them, and vote on them. Representatives will see how their constituents vote on bills before floor votes. Users will be notified how their votes compare to their representatives'. The platform will generate revenue from political groups purchasing polling data. It seeks funding to fix bugs, improve the user experience, and market to universities to reach an initial user base.

The candidate provides responses to questions regarding their qualifications and positions on key issues. For their key qualifications, the candidate emphasizes their 15 years of leadership experience achieving goals others said were impossible and their commitment to making a difference rather than using the role as a stepping stone. On education funding, the candidate acknowledges the high property taxes in Collin County but questions spending on expensive stadiums and high administrative costs. For infrastructure, the candidate advocates for cities to fund improvements through taxes on new developments. On economic development, the candidate supports state and county coordination to avoid competition that gives away tax incentives.
Reflect on voter participation, campaign financing, and the legitimafelipaser7p
Reflect on voter participation, campaign financing, and the legitimacy of elections. Also discuss whether financing elections solely with tax dollars and banning contributions from special interest groups and individuals would make elections more representative of the will of the American people. Discuss whether “voter ID laws” have the effect of disenfranchising eligible voters or of protecting the sanctity of elections from fraud.
In responding to your classmates, discuss how the low level of voter turnout in American elections can make those elections less legitimate than they would be with higher turnout. Explain and support your position.
For your response posts (2), you must do the following:
Reply to at least two different classmates outside of your own initial post thread.
In Module One, complete the two response posts by Sunday at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.
In Modules Two through Eight, complete the two response posts by Sunday at 11:59 p.m. of your local time zone.
Demonstrate more depth and thought than simply stating that “I agree” or “You are wrong.”
Guidance is provided for you in each discussion prompt.
classmates Post #1:
In this discussion, many questions are being raised about elections in general. Let’s look at these question one at a time:
Voter Participation: The Soomo web text covered that issue very well. It stated that a few criteria exist for the participation of voter, and they are usually categorized under a few categories. Voter Turnout is identified as more than approximately 74 % are college graduates, most who also vote to have annual incomes above 50 k per year also most who vote are older American over the age of 35 years or older. A lot of the voting is along party line as opposed to the quality of the candidate. But my feeling is that voters are moving toward voting for the candidate as opposed to the party. (Evans, J., & Michaud, K)
Campaign Financing: The content is always at the forefront of the news every election cycle. Monies are being thrown at the candidates and many illegal items come out of the campaigns. For example; Lavish Trips, extra activities not associated with the campaign (diner, escorts etc…) Dark money donor is and always have been an issue these monies are not recorded, this is almost like play money for the campaigns to do what they want, with whoever they want. The SuperPAC monies are for the candidate to be influenced in a way that the average person never knows about. The candidate doesn’t speak of the donation while on the speech tours but the widely influence the route a candidate take after he is elected. Even in small-town elections the monies from developers, business influences are given being the seen for agendas that no one sees. (Evans, J., & Michaud, K)
The legitimacy of Elections and the Voter ID issue goes hand in hand with each other. Many believe that voter fraud and the id or lack thereof is the biggest is ...
"Super Tuesday": Lessons from the Campaign TrailKRC Research
Webinar from KRC Research, "Super Tuesday": Lessons from the Campaign Trail.
Many of KRC’s executives have worked at the highest levels of global and domestic politics for the likes of Obama, the Clintons, Blair, Bloomberg, and more. We want to teach you how the skills employed to win on the campaign trail are the very ones succeeding in the boardroom today. (Full Disclosure: KRC no longer does political campaign work, but we have lots of bruises and scars to prove our bona fides!)
On our webinar you will learn:
1. How to create and use a political style message box – useful for scenario playing with executives and agencies about what to say and what to anticipate will be said about you. After our webinar you will be empowered to use this tool yourself.
2. How campaigns create their election strategy – relying heavily on competitive message testing. Testing your positives and negatives – as well as those of the competition.
3. The ways in which political candidates visualize their message to drive support.
4. Harnessing the power of Big Data.
This is not a political webinar, but instead one on how companies, organizations, and agencies can benefit from thinking like a pundit and leverage best practices on the campaign trail to enhance their own campaigns.
The document summarizes the Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United v. FEC and its implications for corporate political spending. Some key points:
- The ruling struck down longstanding bans on corporate spending on political campaigns, allowing unlimited spending on electioneering communications.
- It overturned precedents that had upheld restrictions on corporate spending to influence elections directly.
- There is now no limit on independent expenditures by corporations, though coordination with candidates is still banned.
- The decision enables foreign-owned corporations to spend on US elections for the first time.
- Proponents argue it protects free speech rights, while critics warn it will undermine democracy by increasing corporate influence.

Direction
Use this forum to address the following prompt:
Political gridlock has become the mainstay of congressional operations. A
number of factors contribute to this stalemate. America’s predominate two-
party system adds to this deadlock with its propensity towards partisan
politics. Another dynamic in this instance can be found in the lack of term
limits for members of Congress. Many believe that in the absence of such
restraints, members of Congress are not motivated to cooperate with their
partisan counterparts in the interest of the American public. With this mind,
reply to the following question:
Should members of Congress be subject to term limits? Why or Why not?

The United States Congress needs to have term limits. There are a
number or reasons for term limits to be instituted to include increasing
the number of citizens who participate in governing the people, for the
people and by the people. A second reason is to reduce the impact of
special interest and lobbyists and decreasing their influence in the
execution of the United States government. Finally, term limits will also
reduce the amount of corruption in the government. The United States
government has many problems but these problems can be reduced with
the institution of term limits.
The United States government, beginning with the constitution
and the founding fathers attempted to escape tyra.
This document provides information about vote by mail (VBM) in response to 10 questions. It defines VBM as a system where every registered voter receives a ballot in the mail that they can return either by mail or by voting in person. VBM is being discussed more now due to the pandemic making in-person voting difficult. While some form of VBM exists in all states, it proposes expanding access to all voters to ensure safe and accessible elections. It addresses concerns about security and fraud, finding VBM to be secure and voter fraud extremely rare.

Letter to Senator Gardner Regarding Joint Resolution 34 - 20170330
1. Senator Cory Gardner
United States Senate
354 Russell Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510
March 30, 2017
Senator Gardner,
I am really disappointed with your vote on Senate Joint Resolution 34. I believe that broadband
consumer privacy is extremely important.
I am an avid Google and Facebook user and understand that these services harvest my personal
information to sell targeted advertising. In exchange for this allowance though, these companies
provide me with powerful free services that I use to create, socialize, and communicate.
By contrast, the dominant broadband service provider in Colorado, Comcast/Xfinity, charges me
expensive monthly rates for restrictively bundled services. Additionally, Comcast/Xfinity frequently
raises their prices without providing tangible service improvements.
Your vote on Senate Joint Resolution 34 has given broadband providers a new way to exploit their
customers (your constituents).
To remain online I must continue to pay their monopolistic monthly access fees while they also
monetize my personal browsing information. You have given Comcast/Xfinity a powerful new
revenue stream without any expectation that they will reduce their prices or improve their service
quality.
The people of Colorado deserve better!
Please do not send me one of your silly stock responses championing some nonsense about
deregulation. I am not interested.
Your vote speaks for itself; you have put the interests of internet service providers above those of
your constituents.
