letter of recommendation sociology prof

To: Whom it may concern:
I am writing today to recommend Mr. Mohamed Bakayoko for consideration as a candidate
for undergraduate admissions and all scholarships for which he might be eligible.
I have known Mr. Bakayoko over the fall 2014 semester when he completed my introduction
to sociology course. An international student from Ivory Coast, Mohamed has completed a
total of sixty-two credit hours over his tenure at Brookhaven College. Mr. Bakayoko was
also inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society as a five star level member while at
Brookhaven as a consequence of his maintaining a 3.89 CGPA for the above mentioned
sixty-two credit hours. Mohamed held to this high standard of performance while working
an average of fifteen hour per week at Brookhaven’s career center.
His involvement with community service is extensive including Phi Theta Kappa
initiatives with Habitat for Humanity and the North Texas food bank. Through his
involvement with Brookhaven College’s Student Leadership Institute, Mohamed was able
to further develop his leadership skills through projects with Farmers Branch ISD schools
such as donation drives for abandoned children and child abuse awareness programs. As
part of Brookhaven’s Student Ambassador Program, Mohamed conducted freshman
orientation tours and assisted with student outreach and advisement. He was a member of
our Student Government Association and an officer in our International Students’ Club,
where he assisted fellow international students and organized projects such as fundraising
for the Philippine typhoon survivors and the families of the North Korean students whose
lives were lost with the sinking of the fairy in April of 2014. In all, Mohamed spent over six
hours per week involved in student leadership related meeting alone.
Although I have known Mohamed for only one term, I feel I have a good sense of him as
a student and person. Mohamed is a disciplined and dedicated student. Mr. Bakayoko was
an active participant and valued contributor in the class he completed with me. Through his
hard work and clear priorities Mohamed has built a strong foundation from which to pursue
his future undergraduate studies in business. His academic goals are to complete the
bachelor’s degree majoring in accounting with a minor in finance. His eventual, career goal
is to work in the financial and energy industries.
Mohamed has exceptional academic skills and demonstrates superior critical thinking
ability. He can analyze a theory, delineating the various principles, ask salient questions,
and synthesize what he has distilled from the process in clear prose. He has an authentic
and inviting interpersonal style and possesses a social ease with a range of persons and
personalities. Mr. Bakayoko‘s academic skills, discipline and commitment have taken him
this far and I am confident that his new goal to seek admissions to your bachelors in
business degree program will likewise be realized. In conclusion I highly recommend Mr.
Mohamed Bakayoko as an exceptionally competent and gifted candidate for admissions and
scholarship support to your prestigious University.
Sincerely,
Stephen Greg Jacobs M.Ed.
