1. Objectives
a. Students will examine the Cuban Missile Crisis
b. Students will split into two groups and debate if the United States should enter the cold
war.
c. Students will critically examine the pros and the cons of their decisions
2. Students will read about The Cuban Missile Crisis the night before the debate
3. Cold War Debate
a. Students will pretend that they are In John F. Kennedy’s war room during the missile
crisis. In this war room America is on the brink of war with Russia.
b. Students will break into two groups. One group supporting the war and one group
condemning the war.
c. Students should support their arguments through their knowledge from class and citied
outside information.
4. Assessment: Besides the debate students need to write a 1 page position paper that wither
supports or condemns John F. Kennedy decision to blockade the Russian ships during the Cuban
Missile Crisis.
