"Arabic is the official national language.   The majority of Lebanese people speak Lebanese  Arabic, while formal Arabic is  mostly used in magazines and newspapers.  English is increasingly used in science and  business interactions, but French is still the  language generally used by intellectuals. LEBANON POLITICS Lebanon is a parliamentary democracy,which implements a special system known as confessionalism. The President, has to be a Maronite Christian, the Prime Minister a Sunni Muslim and the Speaker of the Parliament a Shi’a Muslim. Lebanon's judicial system is a mixture of Ottoman law, Napoleonic code, canon law and civil law.  Lebanon's national legislature is the unicameral Parliament of Lebanon.
LEBANON RELIGION Lebanon has several different main religions. The main two religions are Christianity and Islam. There is also the Druze minority religion  Even though Lebanon is a secular country, family matters such as marriage, divorce and inheritance are still handled by the religious authorities representing a person's faith.
LEBANON GEOGRAPHY Lebanon is located in Western Asia, between latitudes 33° and 35° N, and longitudes 35° and 37° E.  Most of Lebanon's area is mountainous terrain.  Lebanon has a moderate Mediterranean climate. Beirut is the capital of Lebanon.
LEBANON ECONOMY The urban population in Lebanon is noted for its commercial enterprise. Lebanon's economy and markets are best described as a developing economy.   Lebanon is ideally suited for agricultural activities in terms of water availability and soil fertility. A combination of beautiful climate, many historic landmarks and World Heritage Sites continues to attract large numbers of tourists.
