This document provides details about Angie Rosero's service learning experience at Jack D. Gordon Elementary School. 3. All About the Experience
 Office Staff:
 I went to the school to ask what I needed to bring
in order to start my Service Learning Hours. Mrs.
Odalis was the person who was helping me and
made herself available to any questions I might
have.
 I took all the paper work I needed and within two
days I was assigned a classroom that I would be
able to observe. It was truly a great experience to
see such fast and friendly services.

4. Cooperating Teacher:
Mrs. Larios
 Mrs. Larios was a very helpful
teacher. She would stop her lecture
to explain some of the material she
was going over for the afternoon
with me.
 She has been working at JDG for
over 5 years and loves to teach
children and watching their growth
from the beginning of the year to
the end in her students

5. Classroom
 The classroom setting is simple. The
students sit in three columns. It is a
small room where the students are
facing the white board and smart board.
 In the back of the classroom there are
five computers able to students when
they are working in small groups.

6. Students in 4th grade
 There are 24 students in Mrs. Larios 4th grade classroom.
 It is the ESOL classroom and the students are predominantly
Hispanic.
 When the students walk into the classroom there is a sense of
peace besides the chaos of the talking and chairs being
organized. There is a sense of community that Mrs. Larios has
built and the students are able to be themselves and talk and
be friends all together.

7. Phases of the Moon!
 It was interesting to experience an
activity like this one, but through the
teachers point of view.
 It taught me that it does not all have to
be book work and that the older children
can learn through hands on activities.
 The students made the phases of the
moon using Oreo cookies.

gibbous, first quarter, crescent, and
new moon was..
2. After they made their Oreo moons the
students received a calendar in which
they would observe the phases of the
moon for the month of March and
illustrate it on the calendar.
