Motivation and Affective Factor
 The Learner Centered Principles suggest that when students believe the
context to be supportive and the content to be meaningful and relevant, their
motivation to learn is natural. Since student motivation affects what and how
much is studied, increasing this motivation is essential for learning.
 Additionally, students' affect (i.e., emotional states, beliefs, and interests)
influences their motivation, and assignments that are at the right level of
novelty and difficulty, are pertinent to individual interests, and provide
students a choice and a sense of control increase their intrinsic motivation
Principle 7: Motivational and emotional
influences on learning
 Motivational and Emotional Factors Influence both the quality of thinking and
information processing as well as an individual's motivational to learn.
Motivated to learn persist longer, produce higher quality effort, learn more
deeply, and is essential to determining a student's success in the classroom.
Motivation to learn, in turn, is influenced by the individual’s:
-Emotional states
-Beliefs
-Interest
-Goals
Principle 8: Intrinsic motivation to learn
 Intrinsic motivation refers to an inherent interest in pursing a topic. These
individuals find a subject enjoyable and they naturally desire to learn mastery
of it. In other words, the motivation to engage in a behavior arises from
within because it is naturally satisfying to you.
Principle 9: Effects of motivation on
effort
 Increased effort and energy are related to motivation. If a student is
motivated, it will be clear if they would approach a task—even a challenging
one—with zeal or a drab attitude. The start and continuation of actions are
facilitated by motivation. (Hurst, 2021)
 Motivation can be a vital role in bringing out the ability of students in terms
of exerting efforts. The acquisition of complex knowledge and skills demands
the investment of considerable learner energy and strategic efforts, along
with persistence over time.
