The Local Equine Assistance Network (LEAN) coordinates with local animal control agencies to provide temporary care for horses and donkeys confiscated due to abuse and neglect. LEAN's mission is to rehabilitate the animals and adopt them to screened homes. They have helped over 50 horses since 2012, with 40 placed in permanent homes and 9 currently available for adoption. LEAN relies on a network of volunteers, fosters, donors, and community partners to carry out its mission. They are requesting the establishment of a large animal subcommittee to improve emergency response coordination for large animals.
