This article emphasizes the work of psychologist Geert Hofstede and The Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness (GLOBE) project. Hofstede identified five cultural dimensions that help to explain differences in what is valued in leaders in different cultures and countries. The GLOBE project expanded these dimensions to nine and identified them as power distance, uncertainty avoidance, humane orientation, institutional collectivism, in-group collectivism, assertiveness, gender egalitarianism, future orientation, and performance orientation. The second issue to consider in global leadership is that leaders are not limited to interactions within their own countries and cultures. As a result of technology and a global economy, leaders are expected to interact seamlessly with leaders across the globe as easily as they interact with leaders in their communities. It is valuable to consider the characteristics, skills, and strategies necessary to lead in this environment. Due to globalization, organizations are confronting diversity issues more than ever before. To handle the challenges of global diversity, leaders can develop cross-cultural understandings and build networks.
Consider how behavior is perceived from culture to culture. All leaders need to be aware of the impact a culture and its values have on their dealings with employees. Valuing diversity and enabling all individuals to develop unique talents is difficult to achieve. People of different national origins, races, and religions make up our increasingly global economy. Dimensions of diversity are both primary (age, gender, and race) and secondary (education, marital status, and religion). There are several reasons why organizations are recognizing the need to value and support diversity, including the following: it helps organizations build better relationships with diverse customers; it helps develop employee potential; and it provides a broader and deeper base of experience or creativity in problem-solving, which is essential to the development of learning organizations. Leaders must be aware of the impact culture may have and consider cultural differences in their dealings with followers. Strong, culturally sensitive leadership is the only way organizations can adopt an awareness of diversity.
Reflecting on Leadership
There are many different theories of leadership, and the similarities and differences cannot be understood without exploring their applications to organizations. Many theories are similar to the historical trait or behavior theories and define unique capacities or competencies. Understanding the characteristics and underlying framework of these theories enables leaders to define their own leadership theories based on their world views. Developing a personal theory of leadership requires an understanding of the components of each theory, as well as knowledge of how those components are related or how they may conflict. The world is in the midst of a leadership crisis. Despite the fact that there is
a vast body of literature on leadership, it has remained one of the most misunderstood

importance to understand the consequences, both positive and negative, that emerge
from the various known and validated leadership styles found in modern-day
organizations. Further, it is critical to have metrics in the form of known attributes
of effective leadership to serve as a benchmark for the effectiveness of each
leadership style. A thorough understanding of both the potency and effectiveness of
recognized leadership styles will benefit the academic and professional communities
alike.

Leadership style assessments certainly have a place within the organization. The effectiveness of a leadership style assessment will depend on what type of assessment and what the organizational needs are. Multi-source feedback assessments are supposed to give a 360 degree look at a leader and give the organization a valuable outcome in the evaluation of the leader (MacKie, 2015). Using multi-source feedback assessments can be extremely beneficial as long as the assessment is properly paired with the organizational goals and needs. Assessing a leader from multi perspectives is truly a holistic approach. But, organizations need to recognize that no leadership style assessment is not without its limitations.
Next, the behavior approach is one of four approaches to leadership. Three of which all have weaknesses; traits, skills, and behavior. But the fourth approach to leadership, the situational approach demonstrates the flexibility of a leader (Northouse2016, 2016). In today’s dynamic and complex business environment, flexible leaders bring the most value to an organization. The situational approach allows the leader to apply the other three approaches given the circumstances. As an Army leader I found this approach to be extremely effective while leading in combat and non-combat situations.
Explanation of Usefulness
Of equal importance is the usefulness leadership style assessments and the behavior approach have on an organization. Once an organization has clearly defined the goals and purpose of conducting an assessment, and then subsequently the correct assessment is used, the results will certainly help the organization. In this case, using an assessment to evaluate the benefits of a behavior approach to leadership will allow the organization to determine what needs to be done, how it needs to be done, and how fast it needs to be done (Saxena, 2014). Additionally, the behavior approach (if the relationship behavior is used), can give subordinates the motivation needed to achieve the desired outcome through a better understanding of themselves.
Explanation of Impact
The impact of leadership assessments on an individual can be positive or negative. Again, this directly correlates to the goals and expectations of the organization when the assessment is implemented. For the individual, it could potentially identify strengths and weaknesses. Thus, giving the individual the opportunity to grow and learn from the assessment. Simultaneously, the organization discovers how these strengths and weaknesses fit into the organization’s goals. Once they have identified where and how an individual nest into the organization, a holistic approach to achieving those goals can be developed (Northouse2016, 2016). What makes a leader a leader? What are the characteristics or skills that make a group of people trust and follow an
individual? Those questions and similar ones have been the subject of considerable research for years, especially in the
last century. There are about as many answers and proposals as the number of studies themselves. Economist John
Kenneth Galbraith, who served in the administrations of four presidents (Roosevelt through Johnson) observed, “All of the
great leaders have had one characteristic in common: it was the willingness to confront unequivocally the major anxiety of
their people in their time. This, and not much else, is the essence of leadership.”
For the purpose of this course, Northouse (2013) offers a definition that merits consideration. “Leadership is a process
whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal” (p. 5)
Management and leadership are frequently confused. Can you have one without another? Are all good leaders, good
managers and vice versa? How do managers impact leaders and how do leaders relate to managers in organizations? In
the late 19

century Henri Fayol proposed that there are five functions of management. As illustrated in the chart below,

One of the most rapidly increasing sources of diversity in organizations is globalization, which means hiring employees in many different countries. Due to globalization, organizations are confronting diversity issues more than ever before. To handle the challenges of global diversity, leaders can develop cross-cultural understandings and build networks.
Consider how behavior is perceived from culture to culture. All leaders need to be aware of the impact a culture and its values have on their dealings with employees. Valuing diversity and enabling all individuals to develop unique talents is difficult to achieve. People of different national origins, races, and religions make up our increasingly global economy. Leaders can create change in organizations that will help the organization remain competitive and viable.
Dimensions of diversity are both primary (age, gender, and race) and secondary (education, marital status, and religion). There are several reasons why organizations are recognizing the need to value and support diversity, including the following: it helps organizations build better relationships with diverse customers; it helps develop employee potential; and it provides a broader and deeper base of experience or creativity in problem-solving, which is essential to the development of learning organizations. Leaders must be aware of the impact culture may have and consider cultural differences in their dealings with followers. Strong, culturally sensitive leadership is the only way organizations can adopt an awareness of diversity.
Reflecting on Leadership
There are many different theories of leadership, and the similarities and differences cannot be understood without exploring their applications to organizations. Many theories are similar to the historical trait or behavior theories and define unique capacities or competencies. Understanding the characteristics and underlying framework of these theories enables leaders to define their own leadership theories based on their world views. Developing a personal theory of leadership requires an understanding of the components of each theory, as well as knowledge of how those components are related or how they may conflict. Leadership research often uses capacity-based instruments that measure a particular leadership approach or style.

The world is in the midst of a leadership crisis. Despite the fact that there is

from the various known and validated leadership styles found in modern-day
organizations. Further, it is critical to have metrics in the form of known attributes
of effective leadership to serve as a benchmark for the effectiveness of each
leadership style. A thorough understanding of both the potency and effectiveness of
recognized leadership styles will benefit the academic and professional communities
alike.
Therefore, the purpose of this article is to showcase the different leadership
styles in practice in organizations today and to provide a categorization of existing
leadership styles. A key objective of this research is to compare leadership styles to

Many of us can think of leaders we have come to admire, be they historical figures, pillars of the industry we work in, or leaders we know personally. The leadership of individuals such as Abraham Lincoln and Margaret Thatcher has been studied and discussed repeatedly. However, you may have interacted with leaders you feel demonstrated equally competent leadership without ever having a book written about their approaches.
What makes great leaders great? Every leader is different, of course, but one area of commonality is the leadership philosophy that great leaders develop and practice. A leadership philosophy is basically an attitude held by leaders that acts as a guiding principle for their behavior. While formal theories on leadership continue to evolve over time, great leaders seem to adhere to an overarching philosophy that steers their actions.
What is your leadership philosophy? In this Assignment, you will explore what guides your own leadership.
To Prepare:
Identify two to three scholarly resources, in addition to this Module’s readings, that evaluate the impact of leadership behaviors in creating healthy work environments.
Reflect on the leadership behaviors presented in the three resources that you selected for review.
Reflect on your results of the CliftonStrengths Assessment, and consider how the results relate to your leadership traits.

Tort Law Problem
Andrew Black is the owner of Confederation Mall (“Mall”) located in New Minas, Nova Scotia. Mr. Black leases out many retail spaces in the Mall to a wide range of businesses. He prides himself as a local success story. The people of New Minas truly admire his entrepreneurial success.
George Orange, owner of Guppy World, a pet fish store, has been a long-time tenant of Confederation Mall. Colin and Darren work for Mr. Orange. Colin was repairing a ceiling fan when he asked Darren to toss him a screwdriver, as Colin was up on a step-ladder at the time. Darren, standing 15 feet away, underhand tosses the screwdriver to Colin. Darren overshoots the toss and the screwdriver shatters a glass fish tank containing a piranha fish. At the same time a customer, Sally, was walking towards the check-out to purchase fish food, when she slipped on the water from the broken tank, fell to the floor and fractured her wrist. She is also bitten on the ankle by the piranha. When Mr. Orange tried to assist Sally, he smelled a strong smell of alcoholic beverage coming from her mouth. Colin noted that Sally appeared to be staggering slightly before falling.
Sally was transported to the hospital by paramedics. The doctor determines that Sally’s foot needs to be amputated due to the piranha bite and she needs to wear a cast on her wrist for 6-8 weeks due to the fracture.

Case Study Analysis
When it comes to planning events how many of us take the proper steps and put in the time and how many of us wait till the last minute to plan our event? What's the outcome of an event that has had the proper planning? Usually, a properly planned event is a huge success, and people leave-taking away information that will help them either improve, grow as a person or be successful at their job. People who try to plan events without taking the proper steps find themselves running into many problems along the way. Before they know it, they are out of time to fix any issues or problems that arise. Running out of time can lead to frustration, panic, and eventually the thought of “what am I going to do". Even though the steps to planning an event can be time-consuming, proper planning can ease frustration and anxiety, and lead to a successful event. Proper planning can eliminate the “What am I going to do” question.
Background
In the case study, Carl Robins did not plan for his event very well. He hired 15 new trainees and wanted to schedule a new hire orientation on June 15
th
. His goal was to have the new hires working by July. Carl had only been at his job for six months, and this was his first recruitment effort, so it is crucial for this event to work in Carl’s favor. Carl was contacted by Monica Carrolls, the soon to be Supervisor of the new hires, on May 15
th
. Monica was following up with Carl on how the planning for his orientation was going. She asked him about physicals, drug tests, the training schedule, orientation, manuals, and policy booklets. Carl told Monica that everything would be fine and ready to go in time for orientation. After Memorial Day, Carl finally decided to start planning for his event. Unfortunately; because Carl did not do any planning after hiring the fifteen new trainees and waited till the last minute to plan his event, he ran into multiple problems. When Carl finally decided to start planning for his event, he found that the training room where he was going to hold his orientation was booked for the whole month of June by a fellow associate named Joe. Joe was from technology services and needed the room for computer terminals. When he went to finalize the paperwork for his event, he found that some of the new hire trainees did not have completed transcripts or applications on file; nor had they gone to the clinic for their physicals and mandatory drug screenings. He then checked the orientation manuals and found that there were only three and that those three had missing pages. By now, Carl is very concerned, his anxiety is at a level high, and he is so frustrated that he sits with his head on his desk with the thought of “What am I going to do”.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic Imperative
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. Different cultural backgrounds influence leaders’ values, characteristics, and styles. The assigned article, “ Research on Leadership in a Cross-Cultural Context: Making Progress, and Raising New Questions” reviews studies about the influence of culture on leadership. This article emphasizes the work of psychologist Geert Hofstede and The Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness (GLOBE) project. Hofstede identified five cultural dimensions that help to explain differences in what is valued in leaders in different cultures and countries. The GLOBE project expanded these dimensions to nine and identified them as power distance, uncertainty avoidance, humane orientation, institutional collectivism, in-group collectivism, assertiveness, gender egalitarianism, future orientation, and performance orientation. The second issue to consider in global leadership is that leaders are not limited to interactions within their own countries and cultures. As a result of technology and a global economy, leaders are expected to interact seamlessly with leaders across the globe as easily as they interact with leaders in their communities. It is valuable to consider the characteristics, skills, and strategies necessary to lead in this environment. To prepare for this Discussion: · · Review the article, “Research on Leadership in a Cross- Cultural Context: Making Progress, and Raising New
- 2. Questions." Pay particular attention to the Hofstede and GLOBAL cultural dimensions. Think about what it takes to be a leader in different countries and cultures, that is, the characteristics of leadership that are valued in different countries and cultures. · · Review “Developing Global Leaders” and note the five central strategies for developing global leaders. · · Review “Global Leadership from A to Z: Creating High Commitment Organizations.” Focus on the section titled, “Global Leadership.” · · Select one cultural dimension, and think about how it influences leadership effectiveness in two different cultures. · · Think about the characteristics, skills, and strategies that you believe are necessary for an effective leader in a global society. With these thoughts in mind: Post by Day3 the dimension you selected and explain how this dimension relates to or defines leadership effectiveness in two different cultures. Use specific examples. Then briefly summarize what you believe the role of an effective leader is in a global society. Finally, explain one characteristic, skill, or strategy you believe is most necessary for a leader to be effective in a global society and explain why.
