Why Work with
Big Nerd Ranch
“Why Work at Big Nerd Ranch”
One of the great things about Big Nerd Ranch is that you're surrounded by people that are a lot smarter than you. We really go for three
things which is: hardworking, brilliant and kind. Everyone here is just first of all kind on top of being brilliant at what they do.
I think my favorite thing is that we can all learn from each other and everybody's really excited to learn from each other. And so if you
have a problem and you don't really understand what's going on you can go and find someone and people will jump at the chance to
teach you things.
We have lots of moving deadlines and it takes a kind person to be able to work with those clients and work with other team members if
you are coming here as a developer it’s just not enough for us that you're awesome at programming but at the same time we value the
ability to connect with people.
People work from wherever they want whenever they want. As long as the results are achieved we're happy our clients are happy and
everybody's happy.
I get work done at 10:00 a.m. I get work done at 10:00 p.m. I get work done at 3:00 a.m. it all depends on what's going on and when
inspiration strikes me.
If I find that I’ve been home for 36 hours and only talked to my dog, I realize I should really go into the office
For fun we sit around and learn more things about writing code that's that's not even a lie. We have some social events where we get
together and eat breakfast together a couple every every couple weeks we go through a ton of bacon I get a chance to be part of a
company that is genuinely useful every day and I like being part of that process.

Failure to
Achieve Buy-In
People who need to
be heard. If you can’t accept
their input, they will not take
ownership of your ideas. You
won’t get their fullest effort if
you don’t get their buy-in.
Ignoring
Other’s Needs
This demonstrates low
Emotional Intelligence.
Engineers with low EQ do not
develop People skills or
relationships with non-
technical people, a sure way
to kill career growth.
Arrogance
of Correctness
People who need to
be right, often come across
as arrogant. Being right
makes others wrong, which
can create feelings of
inferiority.
