For the message of the cross is
foolishness to those who are
perishing, but to us who are being
saved it is the power of God.
1 Corinthians 1:18 (NIV)
Luke 1:26-33
He will be great and will be called
the Son of the Most High. The Lord
God will give him the throne of his
father David, and he will reign over
the house of Jacob forever; his
kingdom will never end.”
I. The Promise: Hope
Luke 2:19
But Mary treasured up all these
things and pondered them in her
heart.
Luke 2:33
The child’s father and mother
marveled at what was said about
him.
Luke 2:51-52
Then he went down to Nazareth
with them and was obedient to
them. But his mother treasured all
these things in her heart. And
Jesus grew in wisdom and stature,
and in favor with God and men.
II. The Purpose: Humility
Mark 3:21
When his family heard about this,
they went to take charge of him,
for they said, “He is out of his
mind.”
John 2:3-5
When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother
said to him, “They have no more wine.”
“Dear woman, why do you involve me?”
Jesus replied. “My time has not yet
come.”
His mother said to the servants, “Do
whatever he tells you.”
III. The Power: Heaven
John 19:25-27
Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his
mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and
Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother
there, and the disciple whom he loved standing
nearby, he said to his mother, “Dear woman,
here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is
your mother.” From that time on, this disciple
took her into his home.
Phil 3:17-21
Join with others in following my example,
brothers, and take note of those who live
according to the pattern we gave you. For, as I
have often told you before and now say again
even with tears, many live as enemies of the
cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction,
their god is their stomach, and their glory is in
their shame. Their mind is on earthly things.
Phil 3:17-21
But our citizenship is in heaven. And we
eagerly await a Savior from there, the
Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power
that enables him to bring everything
under his control, will transform our
lowly bodies so that they will be like his
glorious body.
