Prepare the components you will use

Second Step:
Set up your Lancing Device

Screw off the cap of the lancing device.
Insert a lancet into the lancet holder and
push down until is fully seated.

Twist off the protective cap until it
separates from the lancet.

Replace the lancing device cap and set
the puncture depth to the desired number.
(lowest for soft/thin skin,
higher for thick or calloused skin)

Pull back the cocking control until it makes
a click, and then release.
Now the lancing device is ready to use.

Wash your hands and the puncture site.
Rinse and dry completely.
Warm your fingers to increase blood flow.

Remove a new test strip from vial.
Insert test strip into strip slot.
The meter turns on automatically.
When the blood symbol starts blinking the
meter is ready to use.

Select a puncture site.
Hold the lancing device firmly against the
puncture site.
Press release button.

Massage your finger to obtain the blood
sample.
To obtain best accurate results, wipe off
the first drop of blood and squeeze
another.

Apply the blood sample to the opening of
the absorbent channel of the test strip until
the confirmation window is fully covered
with blood.

Type 1 Diabetes
Is caused by an autoimmune reaction, where the
body’s defense system attacks the insulin-
producing beta cells in the pancreas.
As a result, the body can no longer produce
the insulin it needs.
Without insulin, a person with type 1 diabetes
will die.

Type 2 Diabetes
The body is able to produce insulin but either this
is not sufficient or the body is unable to respond to
its effects (also known as insulin resistance),
leading to a build-up of glucose in the blood.
Many people with type 2 diabetes remain unaware
of their illness for a long time because symptoms
may take years to appear or be recognized, during
which time the body is being damaged by excess
blood glucose.

Gestational Diabetes
Is when women develop a resistance to insulin
and subsequent high blood glucose
during pregnancy.
The condition arises because the action of insulin
is blocked, probably by hormones
produced by the placenta.
Uncontrolled gestational diabetes can have
serious consequences for both
the mother and her baby.
