The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation was started in 1998 by Leonardo DiCaprio to focus on environmental and humanitarian issues through grants, campaigns, conservation projects and partnerships with nonprofits. Some of its successful projects include providing clean water to over 400,000 people in Africa, restricting international trade of endangered shark species, and saving rainforests in Sumatra in collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund. The Foundation encourages collaborations with other organizations and celebrities and uses social media and its website to engage over 10 million followers in its efforts to preserve Earth's wildlife.
