Laser history & Lithuania • 1960 Theodore Maiman discovered the laser • 1964 Nobel price in physics on laser discovery was given for three scientists Dr. Charles Townes Nobel price winner • 1962 three Lithuanian students were sent to Moscow to study laser physics; another 2 joined in 1963 • 1966 first laser fired at Vilnius University • 1969 our students came back to Vilnius • 1970 laser fired at the Institute of Physics • 1983 pilot plant EKSMA was established
