It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so (Mark Twain). 3. Be accurate. Double / triple check your work. Have it checked by other people. It takes 90 ‘atta boys’ to erase one ‘Oh dang!’ “The more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war.” 4. You can get anything in the world you want by helping other people get what they want (Zig Ziglar). 5. Be Benedict Arnold at Saratoga, not Horatio Gates. 6. Maintain the balance between courage and consideration. Have courage. But don’t kill the train operator with a frozen turkey. Let your team know where they need to improve. But, also CTBG. 7. Be humble. It really is a team effort. You don’t know everything. Build on each other’s strengths and successes. 8. Act. Don’t be acted upon. Be proactive. Either lead, follow, or get out of the way. 9. Keep the garbage service running. Maintain the basics. 10. KAIZEN. Keep the ship running behind your back and at the same time, look forward. Don’t let the basics fall behind your back while you’re continually adding value looking forward. 11. Don’t over-promise. Under promise and over-deliver. 12.Write the least amount I can get away with. Avoid a preachy tone. Make things easy to understand. Remember that my audience has many things to think about besides me. 13.Go the extra mile to get the facts. People will be looking for my mistakes. 14.Manage the trade-off between responding quickly to outside requests and buffering my people from them. 15.Don’t do things myself. Instead, manage the PROCESS.
