3. Satellite Observation and In-Situ measurements
• Snow sampling in Rohtang was spread over an area of approximately 1 Km centered over coordinates of 32.36N 77.24E .The specific measurements of LAPs ,Snow
Albedo(SA) and Snow Grain Size (SGS) were done over a period of one month (20Apr2022-20may2022),which are explained well in earlier part of this report. In this
section we tried ,in order to further our spatial extent of our measurements with some firm beleif,to compare our in-situ measurements with the MODIS retreived
variables of Deltavisible ,Snow Albedo and Snow Grain Size.
• A bounding box of 2km extent ,centered over the same coordinates was used to derive the values of the in situ measured variables and are then plotted over them for
the same temporal extent.
• Both the SGS and SA measured by the satellite follow their ground truth fairly accurately with SGS showing lesser bias than SA values as shown in figures 12 and 13
respectively.
4. Here we will try to see which part of LAP size distribution is predominantly
retained on the surface of the snow and explore how this distribution governs
the snow albedo darkening(SAC) and what biases we incur when we simply use
total mass concentration in determining the evolution of snow albedo while
using different models like SNICAR etc.
