Smart phone technology and social media impact on photographyMelanie Wilde
This is a presentation I created for a community camera club that tackles the good and the bad of social media apps and their affect on photography. The trends in the way we share and take photos is also influencing manufacturers to make make changes to meet our demands.
This document proposes creating a student-driven online learning resource called the East Noble School Corporation Khan Academy. It would incorporate instructional and informational resources created by ENSC students and be open to both the ENSC community and the world. Students would create a business plan, develop a vetted resource rubric, and have a dedicated staff facilitator to train them, review submissions, and post resources to the learning platform. The next steps outlined are to hire a facilitator, secure a learning platform, promote the idea, create the business model, purchase needed equipment and software, establish a rubric, and begin production in Fall 2013.

The document discusses key aspects of successful advertising according to an expert interview. It notes that advertising has become a two-way experience between advertisers and audiences. To be effective, ads need to entertain and engage audiences in a way that creates relevance for the brand. Print advertising allows a deeper level of interaction and control compared to other mediums by allowing the audience to physically interact with ads. Finally, the document stresses that to be prepared for an advertising agency, one needs a diverse cultural exposure, an understanding of behavior, a holistic thinking approach, and a passion for learning and the creative process.
This photography unit discusses examples of compositional techniques including the rule of thirds, lighting, and use of props. The picture of Morgan demonstrates the rule of thirds by positioning her slightly off-center. Minha's portrait by a window shows how lighting can make an image darker. A cardboard cutout was used as a prop in one of Minha's pictures.
The expert discusses several key points about successful advertising:
- Advertising is an experience that changes alongside consumers and involves a two-way interaction between advertisers and audiences.
- Attention-grabbing ads that entertain and create relevance are most effective. Good advertising should be simple, loud, and expansive.
- Print advertising allows a deep interaction and intimacy that online media cannot replicate, through physically interacting with and holding advertisements. It also gives advertisers more control.
- To be effective, advertising must constantly refresh and evolve with the market, otherwise products will stop selling. Agencies need expertise in behavior and culture to develop creative approaches.

Drinking enough water is important for your health and performance. The body needs water to function properly, and even mild dehydration can negatively impact things like energy, focus, endurance and mood. Staying hydrated by drinking water regularly throughout the day is key to overall well-being.
We've had a couple of our clients recently request information on key differences between Emerging and Developed Markets. Given that we operate across a range of such markets, we've shared some insights of such differences.
Angular 2.0 introduces several major changes from Angular 1.x including a component-based architecture, new data binding syntax, and improved change detection. Components are the fundamental building blocks and define a template and class. Data binding in Angular 2.0 no longer uses two-way binding and instead relies on property, event, and local variable binding. Change detection is also enhanced with faster performance for immutable objects. While Angular 2.0 introduces breaking changes, Angular 1.x will continue to be supported, so there is no rush to migrate existing applications.
The document outlines Emirates' global brand campaign for 2012. The objectives are to increase market share and brand awareness through a CSR initiative. The campaign will target new price-sensitive customers and business travelers, revealing Emirates' environmental achievements over 3-4 months. It will include TV, outdoor, print, digital, and social media elements centered around how Emirates recycles chinaware into new marine habitats, tied to the idea of "oyster filtering capabilities". The estimated budget is $3-3.5 million.
The document discusses concepts related to organizational culture and work culture. It defines culture as a common set of values, beliefs, attitudes and behaviors shared within an organization. A positive work culture promotes high morale, peak performance and productivity. Creating such a culture requires managers to introspect, communicate a clear vision and mission aligned with core values, elicit commitment from employees, and empower them. Revitalizing the workforce involves changing attitudes and mindsets to encourage collaboration, sharing, initiative and continuous learning. The overall culture or "smell of the place" must support these behaviors for the organization's goals.

It advocates highlighting nature over artificial things, sharing over hoarding, modesty over ostentatiousness, and prudence over wastefulness. The goal is to consume only what is needed, reuse materials, produce according to demand, and emphasize local characteristics through global cooperation instead of resource exploitation.
The document discusses Grounded, a branding and design consultancy focused on social impact. It summarizes their approach of connecting an organization's purpose to meaningful pursuits through consulting, convening stakeholders, and incubating social enterprises. Their goal is to transform purpose into profit by empowering businesses to accelerate change and lead on societal issues.

For years, manufacturing companies have been striving towards enterprise excellence throughout their organizations utilizing the philosophy, thinking and tools of lean. There are two basic pillars of lean including continuous improvement tools, and respect for people. There has been a very strong focus on the continuous improvement tools (kaizens, value stream mapping, A3 problem solving, 5S, cells/flow, setup reduction, etc.) with very little emphasis on respect for people. Businesses struggle with understanding the skills and abilities of leadership at every level of the organization required to inspirationally lead towards excellence.
As a result of the combination of the process initiatives over the past 100 years, seven out of eight people report leaving their jobs each day feeling that they work for a company that does not care about them. People are disengaged and unenthusiastic about their work resulting in huge losses of productivity to the entire organization.
Recently, the Association for Manufacturing Excellence (AME), the premier not-for-profit organization dedicated to the journey of continuous improvement and enterprise excellence, invited Barry-Wehmiller to partner with them in addressing the challenges facing manufacturing today. Together they hope to lead the way in transforming manufacturing companies through adoption of people-centric leadership practices. Their vision is to ignite a manufacturing renaissance driven by people-centric leadership coupled with enterprise excellence.

Editor's Notes
It happens millions of times each week – a customer receives a drink from a Starbucks barista – but each interaction is unique. We are about connections. From our beginnings, as a single store over forty years ago, in every place that we’ve been, and every place that we touch, we've tried to make it a little better than we found it.
We’ve always believed that businesses can – and should – have a positive impact on the communities they serve.Rather than be bystanders, we have an opportunity and a responsibility to use our company’s scale for good.
Our mission is to inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup, and one neighborhood at a time
Ever since we opened our firststore in 1971, we dedicated ourselves to striking a balance between profitability and social conscience. We continue to believe that the ultimate way to scale the power of brand is to share the good we do so that Starbucks and everyone we touch – can endure and thrive.
Starbucks is actively engaged in a series of CSR initiatives ranging from commitment to local communities, support for coffee farmers,
concern for the environment and Starbucks’ impact on it, and our commitment to a number of official CSR standards, as well as embracing diversity.
Our success as a company has always been linked to the success of the thousands of farmers and suppliers who grow and produce our products.
Helping them thrive helps ensure the long-term sustainability of the premium products we provide. Whether it’s coffee, tea, cocoa or manufactured goods, we’re committed to offering ethically purchased and responsibly produced products of the highest quality.
Picture 1:Here at Starbucks, we are committed to offering the highest-quality, ethically purchased and responsibly produced products. Through our responsible purchasing practices we invest in our farmers, suppliers and their communities.Picture 2: With help from Conservation International, we’ve created a set of standards that help our farmers grow coffee in a way that’s better for both people and the planet. Picture 6: Starbucks has established Farmer Support Centers in Costa Rica and Rwanda to provide local farmers with the resources and expertise that help lower the cost of production, reduce fungus infections, improve coffee quality and increase the yield of premium coffees.
Together, we’re making a difference. We have deep relationships with many coffee growing communities of Africa. Their health and prosperity are important to us. Through our relationship with Product (RED)™, we have an opportunity to help them thrive. To use our size for good. And to bring our customers new ways to do good every day. Every time you pay with your (STARBUCKS)RED Card*, we make a contribution to the Global Fund to help people living with HIV/AIDS in Africa. With your help, we’ve already generated contributions equaling more than 18 million daily doses of medicine.
Throughout the year, our partners and customersdedicate their time and energy to create positive change in their local neighborhoods.During our Global Month of Service, this commitment to helping communities thrive is exemplified as partners and customers participate in service projects around the world. In April 2012, more than 700,000 individual acts added up to significant impact in more than 34 countries around the worldOur goal is to achieve1 million community service hours per year by 2015.
Starbucks is leading the way and becoming one of the world’s most eco friendly companies. We understand how valuable our environment is, and plan to make the most of it!
In store, we strive to recycle at least one kind of waste, like cardboard. We have also begun to offer front-of-house recycling in key markets all over North America.
Through our “Cup Summits” we have brought together major contributors to discuss the future of the environment. We are committed to finding new opportunities to increase recycling across the continent.
The Starbucks Coffee cup has the valuable reputation of being environmentally friendly. Since 1997, we have made several initiatives to decrease waste and the overall environmental impact. Our goal is have our cups 100% recyclable or reusable by 2015.
Since 2001, Starbucks has led the way to greener buildings through the LEED Certification process. The process ensures that each new store is pre-certified to become a ‘green’ store through it’s construction and design. From using more organic paints, to producing countertops made from post-industrial materials, we are dedicated with providing you with a facility that is both appealing and eco-friendly.
We understand that as a retailer, our energy consumption makes up for the largest impact on the environment. We also understand this is both our greatest challenge, and our biggest opportunity for change. In recent years, we have worked to understand strategies to reduce our energy consumption, and pave the way for the future. We continue to purchase reusable energy in our stores in the US and Canada. We have also made an effort to improve the lighting, heating, cooling, and ventilation systems in our present stores, as well as stores to come.
Water is a valuable resource that is used so often in our daily lives. As a company, we recognize the amount of water is takes to produce our product. We continue to devote our time finding alternatives in our equipment and technology that helps decrease our water usage, such as the use of higher-pressure water instead of an open tap to clean equipment.Starbucks also sells Ethos Water Bottles. For every bottle purchased, we contribute 5 cents to finding sustainable water system solutions throughout the globe.
