13th World Lake Conference in Wuhan, China – November 1-5, 2009
I have great pleasure in inviting you, on behalf of the Chinese Society for Environmental
Sciences, to the 13th World Lake Conference. The conference will be held at Wuhan
International Conference & Exhibition Centre from November 1-5, 2009 in Wuhan, China.
The 13th World Lake Conference is jointly organized by the Chinese Society for
Environmental Sciences (CSES), Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences
(CRAES) and Wuhan Municipality, with support from key national agencies including the
Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, National Committee of the Chinese
People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Ministry of Environmental Protection,
Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Science and Technology,
Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Construction, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The theme of the conference is “Rehabilitate the Lake Ecosystem: Global Challenges and
the Chinese Innovations”. The conference offers an opportunity for the global exchange of
experiences in lake protection and allows for the sharing of best practices in the field.
We expect the conference this year to be a high profile and diverse one, involving
participation of over 1000 key stakeholders from all parts of the world. There will be a total of
12 plenary speeches at the conference, delivered by the Chinese Minister of Environmental
Protection, Chinese Minister of Water Resources, Japanese Vice-Minister of Environmental
Affairs, Stockholm Water Prize Laureates, Chinese scholars, representatives from the World
Bank and the coordinator of UN World Water Assessment Programme. Special events
including the Governors Dialogue, Mayors Forum and the Students and Children Sessions are
also organized to maximize participation by stakeholders worldwide, facilitate international
collaboration, and create more opportunities for global partnership. Further details on the

2. The following logistical arrangements will be provided for you:
1. The conference registration fee will be waived for you. You are entitled to shuttle
transfers from your hotel to the conference venue, a mid-conference field visit, and the
conference package including a conference bag, collection of abstracts, CD of
proceedings, souvenir and the conference directory.
2. The conference secretariat shall arrange for you to be received at Wuhan International
Airport on November 1, 2009, and transported to a hotel in Wuhan. As such, you are
advised to inform us at info@chinalakes.org of your flight details at your earliest
convenience.
3. Your accommodation from November 1, 2009 to November 5, 2009 will be fully paid
for by CSES. You are accountable for all other charges incurred at the hotel, including
your laundry, phone and room service charges. You are also responsible for any
additional cost incurred for an extension of your stay beyond November 6, 12:00pm.
4. You are entitled to conference refreshments, lunches and dinner banquets stated in the
conference programme attached. Please note that you are responsible all other meals
not included in the daily programme.
The conference organizing committee is not accountable for any other expenses not stated in
this letter.
Please confirm your attendance with us before October 10, 2009 so we could make the
necessary logistical arrangements for you. We extend our heartfelt thanks to you for your
