An Interview with CMT…
What have you learned over the past year that's really helped you make this record and make it what you
wanted it to be?
Kelley: Probably to be ourselves. Again, I think with the success of the first record and the response, everyone
was like, "Hey, we like what you're doing. Keep doing what you're doing." Obviously, we can't come out with
the same record. We've gotta flip it up a little. I think the way we did that was to just approach it a little bit
more in-depth and get a little bit more creativity with the production elements and lyrically take some
chances. I mean, "Need You Now" -- "I'm a little drunk, and I need you now." As a new artist, we might be
afraid of saying that on the first record. Now we're like, "Hey, man, this is country music. What happened to
country music? What happened to Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash songs and singing those kind of lyrics?" It
was fine and then for some reason over the past few years I think it's become ... .

Scott: Taboo.
Haywood: It's honest.
Scott:Yeah. We really bared it all in a lot a ways. There's a song called "When You Got a Good Thing" on the
record that we wrote with Rivers Rutherford. It's pretty much Charles' song to his wife because he just got
married over the summer. There's a line that goes: "Barefoot beauty with eyes that blue/Sunshine sure looks
good on you." He was thinking about their wedding day because he had the picture up on his screensaver on
his computer as we were writing it. ... And then we have a song like "Ready to Love Again" that is really, really
special to me. It's the one that I relate to the most. It's very personal, so we really allowed ourselves to go
there and be vulnerable and show the fans that we feel and we hurt and we love just like anybody else does. I
hope they feel that when they hear it.

Fun Facts about Lady Antebellum from www.tasteofcountry.com
10. Scott sings with Luke Bryan on one of his No. 1 hits. Scott’s bandmates, Dave Haywood and Charles
Kelley, were two-thirds of the team behind the No. 1 Bryan hit, ‘Do I,’ which they co-wrote with the singer. When
it came time for Bryan to head into the studio to lay down the song’s track, he asked Scott to join him on
harmony.
8. She auditioned for ‘American Idol’ prior to the Lady A days. Scott’s ‘Idol’ experience was a brief moment in time
— she never even made it to see the judge panel for the show’s auditions. “I literally performed for the production
assistants and the interns, and I just didn’t make it,” she admits.

6. She gets seal of approval from Charles and Haywood on guys she dates. In order for Scott to be at ease with a
new man in her life, she first has to run it by her bandmates. “It’s extremely important to me,” Scott says. “If anybody
knows me, Charles and Dave do, and [they] have my best interests at heart. They’re like the big brothers I never had.
It definitely means the world what they think, and hopefully it’s good.”
5. Scott digs pop singer Adele. The British songstress covered a Bob Dylan classic on her debut album, which is
Scott’s favorite song on the record. “I’m a huge fan of hers. She is spectacular,” says Scott. “That is one of my favorite
versions of that song I ever heard.”
4. Scott plans to attend Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton‘s wedding. Scott, along with her bandmates, have
been invited to the wedding of the season. Scott already has in mind her special gift for the bride and groom: “Some
kind of pistol,” she says.
3. Scott loves summer tours … for the fair food. Summer time means fairs and festivals, which means Scott can
hunt down the best corndogs (with ketchup!) coast-to-coast. She also loves another fair favorite: “I’m a huge fan of
chocolate-covered bananas,” she gushes. “I love those! They’re frozen like a Popsicle.”
2. Scott’s post-show beverage of choice, Bacardi mixed with Sprite Zero, was inspired by Miranda Lambert.
While touring with Lambert a couple years ago, the two friends spent much time together after the shows —
including playing bartender. “Miranda makes Bacardis and Sprite Zeros,” Scott says. “So normally, I’ll have one of
