The purpose of this training is to comply with the new chemical hygiene plan, to understand your obligations as a science teacher, to protect employees, and most importantly - to protect students in the lab.

  9. Participants should be split into four groups and be given an example MSDS sheet. Feel free to add other questions as you see fit. Assign each group to answer one of the questions. Questions can be answered on chart paper, in writing on their own paper or verbally discussed within groups. To debrief, ask a representative from each group to share their answers with the class, citing the number of the section within which they found their answer.   10. Before the training begins, fill in the text of this slide to reflect questions you would like answered by your science teachers that can be found in the CHP. This allows you to address specific safety issues you need to highlight. During the training, ask participants if there are any additional lab safety or procedural questions they would like answered. Type these questions in the slide as they are posed by your department. Conduct this part of the training like a scavenger hunt. You may choose to have your department work in pairs or individually and assign each a different question to be answered. Or, you may want each participant to individually comb through the CHP to search for all answers. Debrief the activity by asking participants to share answers and clarify any misunderstandings.If questions arise that you cannot answer or you need clarification about something written in the CHP, please contact Rene Baker at rbaker4@bcps.org.
