Hello Everyone,
My name is David McCandless and I am currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Public Relations through Ball State University's online program. I currently work for the U.S. House of Representatives, more specifically Congressman Steve Chabot of Ohio's 1st Congressional District. The district includes the city of Cincinnati and its suburbs. This is my fourth year in this office which I hope leads to more in my career as I thoroughly enjoy serving our constituents in a variety of ways with help with federal agencies and community outreach. Eventually, I would like to take on a communications role with this office or another (hence the Public Relations program). I am married and hope to have kids one day, in addition to my current dog and three cats. This is my final class to complete for the Masters Degree in addition to my creative project which I am currently taking in addition to this course. Through past classes, I have learned a great deal about the importance of research in this field whether it be done through quantitative, qualitative, or other means. In terms of education, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Miami University (OH) in 2009. It may sound simplistic, but one of my goals for this class is to simply become a better researcher. I would like to better understand techniques and methods while paying greater attention to detail. Thankfully, I am taking this course with my creative project so I can both learn more about research while performing it in a meaningful way. My concern is how well or not I will absorb the material and methods, meaning I may have to put in some extra effort! I am more of a traditionalist when it comes to learning but I have come to enjoy online education. I look forward to getting to know you all this semester and hope we can have some meaningful discussions! If you ever need to reach me, my email is: [email protected] and my cell is: 440-590-5094. Happy New Year everyone!

Wow, David. Your job sounds very interesting, it must be great to serve the people of the greater Cincinnati area as well as the rest nation in Congress. Do you have any interest in running for office yourself at some point? If you do, I'm sure the experiences working in a congressional office will help in those endeavors. I'm sure your employment experiences, coupled with the Masters in Public Relations, will help you land a communications position. I've had some success in altering my career path from serving local governments in Parks and Recreation agencies ...

Subject: BIG Shout out to DeVe!
DeVe has moved onto the GE account and has already begun making friends and partners with not only
her MSP contacts but the field offices as well. I'd love to share an email she sent to the Area Director in
Maryland giving a "shout out" to one of the recruiters. Emails like this go a long way in gaining the
recruiter's trust and partnership. And, his boss got to see what a phenomenal job he's doing. I know the
next time DeVe calls him with an order, he'll be all over it.
Keep up the good work DeVe!
Sincerely,
Sara Johnson

Subject: BIG Shout out to Matt Owens
Good morning Dawn!
I am hoping to start your Monday off on a very high note. I’d like to give a humongous
shout out to Matt Owens.I am new on the GE Healthcare account, and let me just say
he has been a shining example on how I would like to build this account. He has a
wonderful relationshipwith the MSP in his area, which I hope to emulate throughout
the country to grow the relationshipwe have with GE back into a partnership. He
leads by example through his wonderful attitude, attention to detail, and sense of
urgency. I love talking to him when I have questions as he is extremely helpful, despite
being so new. I know I can always, alwayscount on him. We have a rising star among
us, and I just wanted everyone to know
Thankyou!
