relocating to London
Objective
a transport planning/engineering position in London
Education
2008 - 2010 University of California, Berkeley
MCP, City Planning (concentration: Transportation Planning)
Awarded Department of City and Regional Planning Fellowship for exceptional students
Thesis: Analysis of High-Speed Rail’s Potential to Reduce CO2 Emissions in the US
• Evaluated quantitatively the environmental impacts of national high-speed rail (HSR) and gained a
deep understanding of intercity travel behaviour and methods of predicting demand
• Analysed impacts of the California HSR proposal during an 18-month research position
• Presented findings at the 2011 Meeting of the Transportation Research Board in Washington, DC
Urban Land Institute - Hines Competition: national semi-finalist
• Collaborated with urban designers and architects on a five-student team, producing a land use
and transport plan focused on promoting livability and walkability for a site in downtown San Diego
Key classes:
• Transport studio: redesigned a one-mile section of a notorious arterial in Berkeley, incorporating
traffic calming and safe bicycle facilities into a redevelopment vision for the neglected neighborhood
• History of city planning: critiqued transport planning approaches for Milton Keynes and Runcorn in
a term paper, isolating the impact of modernist thought on transport planning
• Bicycle and pedestrian planning: designing facilities, evaluating safety and assessing policies
MS, Transportation Engineering
Awarded Gordon F. Newell Scholarship for distinguished international transport students
Coauthor: Service Expansion Proposals for the West Berkeley Shuttle
• Developed three route and scheduling alternatives to improve service and ridership for an employee
shuttle bus service for a local government client: the City of Berkeley
Researcher: Perspectives on Ridership in an Era of Uncertain Revenues and Climate Change
• Interviewed influential public transport officials in California to determine shortcomings in regional
coordination in public transport before writing a report coordinating findings with ridership analysis
Key classes:
• Developed solid knowledge of key transport topics through rigorous core classes in transport sys-
tems analysis, analysis of transport data and operation of transport facilities
• Behavioural modeling: thorough understanding of demand modeling in transport
• Fundamentals of business at Haas School of Business: project finance and marketing
2003 - 2007 Imperial College London
MEng, Civil Engineering First-class Honours
ACGI, Associateship of the City and Guilds of London Institute
Awarded Institution of Civil Engineers’ Queen’s Jubilee Scholarship (QUEST)
Thesis: Validating Map-matching Algorithms for GPS Positioning in the Urban Environment
• Developed understanding of geospatial navigation and its application in urban environments
• Awarded departmental prize for Best Dissertation with Industrial Design Relevance
Constructionarium project manager
• Led a team of fifteen peers on an intensive four-day site-based construction project, developing ef-
fective man-management, budgeting skills and time management in a tough environment
• Fielded numerous questions on the final day from an inquisitive guest of honour: Prince Philip

Experience
Jun 10 - present Public Transport Engineering Intern
San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency
• Developed a ranking system to prioritise $80M of roadway engineering improvements over a
7-year period and summarised the findings for senior staff and City of SF policy analysts
• Conducted an engineering study to determine the traffic impact of remodeling a major bus
terminus next to San Francisco City College, simulating existing and proposed traffic flows
• Performed fieldwork to assess engineering and planning feasibility of tramway bulbouts and
prepared correspondence to local residents and businesses explaining the proposals
2008 - 2010 Research Assistant
Institute of Urban and Regional Development at UC Berkeley
• Authored a research paper assessing CO2 reduction from mode shift to high-speed rail in the
United States, based on a self-developed spreadsheet-based emissions model
• Assisted in the creation of a greenhouse gas emissions inventory for California transport for
the year 2007, analysing multiple government data sources
Summer 2009 Transport Planning Intern
Metropolitan Transportation Commission, Oakland California
• Edited and laid out the content of a 60-page briefing book detailing strategies for attracting
residents to transit-oriented neighbourhoods in San Francisco
• Applied a linear regression to public transport pass usage data to best explain the frequency
of transit-oriented development residents’ usage of complimentary passes
Aug 07 - Jul 08 Assistant Transport Planner/Engineer
Earth Tech/AECOM, Chicago Illinois
• Planned and created a nested logit model to predict travel demand for a 3-mile streetcar line
• Conceived and calculated a variety of geospatial metrics to analyse bus, light-rail and bus
rapid transit (BRT) alternatives for a commuter link in south Chicago using GIS
• Ran macroscopic traffic models in TransCAD to predict the road usage effects of a new Dallas
tolled ring-road, compiling the results into a report
Summer 04 & 05 Construction Supervisor
GallifordTry, West Midlands
• Supervised a team of construction workers at an apartment development in Birmingham and
at the new wing of the RAF Cosford air museum
• Learned man-management skills and project delivery techniques whilst developing a basic
knowledge of contracting, particularly in pavement and road surfacing
