machinery. What are the challenges that
you face these days?
The TSR processing industry is feeling a
slowdown because of the slump in the
international rubber market. In the Indian
context, because of the drop in rubber
prices, there is a reduction in the rubber
production. Factoring this, in addition to
the current lower demand for TSR makes
it a difficult period for the newcomers.
However, this is a temporary situation, as
rubber being a green product will regain
its lost demand in a short period of time.
What are the major strengths of Hevea
Engineering Works? How do you add
value to TSR equipment buyers?
We have established a strong base in TSR
processing machinery in last 20 yrs. We
understand the complete TSR value chain
– right from cup rubber to final usage. This
gives us the unique perspective to
recommend the right solution to our
customers. The 'solution' can vary from as
basic (though important) as consulting on
plant layout and design to supply of
customized machinery for TSR processing.
For example, you would benefit from
different designs for a DRC of 45% as
compared to DRC of 80%. Again machinery
varies for latex processing, field coagulum,
or RSS reprocessing. We understand TSR
best. We improve our designs regularly
based on other customers' feedback.
Additionally, at our own production facility,
we test our products. This means when
customers buy from us, they can be assured
of machinery that is improved in design,
are user-friendly and has low maintenance.

How has been your experience so far in
this industry? Could you share a few
highs & lows?
I would say we have had a fairly mixed
experience so far. For example, we have
been accepted by the Indian and Sri
Lankan TSR processing industry
whole-heartedly because of the good
quality of machinery and the technical
support we offer. In 2007, we got the
opportunity to set up the first TSR
processing factory in North-East India.
The technical consultancy cell of Rubber
Board of India recognized our competency
to deliver right from our inception. And
we executed quite a few projects
successfully. In the recent period, the
slump in the industry has reduced the
number of turnkey projects and this has
affected us too. But then, I would attribute
this to something that is definitely not in
our immediate control. On the positive
front, this slump allowed us to focus on
other sectors, such as moulded goods,
rubber compounding etc.
Purchasing machinery is a major
investment for most buyers and they
would need technical inputs and
customization. What level of pre-sales
support does HEW offer?
As I mentioned, our expertise in TSR
processing machinery is built over last 20
years. When I look back, we have achieved
this both from our acquired knowledge of
the industry and our personal experiences.

As a specialist in setting up of turnkey TSR
Processing Plant, I think it is difficult to
narrow down. This is also because a TSR
plant is often a one-time setup. Unless there
is a capacity increase, or layout changes for
automation, the core machinery don't change.
What changes is the incremental requirement
of individual machinery like a rubber creper.
So depending on the projects we bag, the
ratio of individual machinery supplies change
from one year to the next. However, I see that
moulds for dry rubber goods are fast moving
now a days.

dependent on skilled workers. With the
introduction of automation, many processes

the rubber, even big lumps - which was not
possible with the traditional bucket elevators,
from the soaking tank to the first machine.

your existing customers and future
buyers to reach you and exchange
information?
Our team speaks English and
communicates effectively to consult,
guide and resolve technical as well as
other allied needs that you may have.
You can reach us either on phone or
email. We work with Government
Plantations, Large growers, Traders
as well as small holders who are
interested in setting up TSR
production units both in India and
abroad. We offer turnkey consulting
that starts from selecting the project
site carefully, effective planning of
raw material movement,
conveyorization, effluent treatment,
location specific design to suit the
topography of the area, machinery
selection, addressing the electrical data,
water requirements etc for targeted
production volume. I think this level of
pre-sales support and right technical
guidance is extremely valuable for our
customers to take a wise decision on their
machinery investment, save initial time and
money that also greatly reduces their project
execution time.
What challenges are you tackling today to
improve customer service and enhance
their overall satisfaction?
We periodically send our representatives to
our customer's processing units to evaluate
the performance, and to see if there are any
problems.
