This document provides an overview of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), including its origins in antiquity, its philosophical underpinnings of yin and yang and the five elements theory, and its diagnostic and treatment methods. Some key concepts discussed are the dynamic balance of yin and yang; qi (life energy) and the meridian pathways; and the four diagnostic methods of inspection, auscultation/olfaction, inquiry, and pulse-taking. Important early medical classics that helped establish TCM theories and practices are also mentioned.
