Innovation is everywhere - Malaysia Innovation Ecosystem and Startup SceneInnovation is Everywhere
Malaysia is a rather small country in populous South-East Asia, with 29 million inhabitants, North of Singapore and south of Thailand, with a "peninsular" part and half the island of Borneo (shared with Indonesia).
Malaysia has been early to invest a lot in high technology and has a Silicon Valley of its own since 1997. Is infrastructure enough to create conditions for innovation?
In this presentation, we share the milestones of Malaysia as an innovation ecosystem, we identify their best practices (in particular the neat organization of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Kuala Lumpur) and assess their strengths and weaknesses.

Lamentations over the predicament of our country’s manufacturing industry have dominated headlines over the past year. There is, however, a light behind the storm clouds. As Dr Glenn Stevens, the Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia, pointed out, ‘Even as industries are shrinking, new industries can grow up’.
This report – "Product Innovation in a hyper connected world: The Australian Maker Movement” – takes a different, more radical outlook. Our view is that the future of Australian manufacturing is fundamentally shifting, and could lie with our emerging ‘maker movement’. Australia finds itself at a disadvantage for labour- intensive, low-skilled manufacturing however, technologically voracious and interconnected Australians have collectively built a digital foundation for the vibrant maker movement.
Business would be well advised to observe how the successful startups outlined in this report find ways to participate, learn, and shape the movement. Moreover, we urge Australians to take pride in the emerging movement, which showcases the good old Aussie ingenuity of making things happen.
The Canadian Trade Commissioner Service manages the Canadian Technology Accelerators (CTA) in New York, San Francisco & Silicon Valley, Boston, and Philadelphia, global clusters for technology and entrepreneurship. This initiative provides those Canadian start-ups in information and communication technology, digital and social media, gaming, clean technologies, and life sciences with access to unique resources and contacts that foster their international growth.
The CTAs make available free office space for three to six months where physical offices are located within existing business incubators. The CTAs help you to refine your business model, collect competitive intelligence, pursue key clients, access financing sources, and engage strategic partners.

Suzanne Lagerweij - Influence Without Power - Why Empathy is Your Best Friend...Suzanne Lagerweij
This is a workshop about communication and collaboration. We will experience how we can analyze the reasons for resistance to change (exercise 1) and practice how to improve our conversation style and be more in control and effective in the way we communicate (exercise 2).
This session will use Dave Gray’s Empathy Mapping, Argyris’ Ladder of Inference and The Four Rs from Agile Conversations (Squirrel and Fredrick).
Abstract:
Let’s talk about powerful conversations! We all know how to lead a constructive conversation, right? Then why is it so difficult to have those conversations with people at work, especially those in powerful positions that show resistance to change?
Learning to control and direct conversations takes understanding and practice.
We can combine our innate empathy with our analytical skills to gain a deeper understanding of complex situations at work. Join this session to learn how to prepare for difficult conversations and how to improve our agile conversations in order to be more influential without power. We will use Dave Gray’s Empathy Mapping, Argyris’ Ladder of Inference and The Four Rs from Agile Conversations (Squirrel and Fredrick).
In the session you will experience how preparing and reflecting on your conversation can help you be more influential at work. You will learn how to communicate more effectively with the people needed to achieve positive change. You will leave with a self-revised version of a difficult conversation and a practical model to use when you get back to work.
Come learn more on how to become a real influencer!
