Ethnic Roma can trace their roots to ancient
India. In 1385, the Roma were brought to
what is now present-day Romania, as slaves.
In 1864, they were emancipated. Ever since,
the Roma continue to pejoratively be called
‘gypsies’ or ‘Țigani,’ across Europe and
especially Romania.
With the exception of the minorities that
have common, scientifically proven, roots
with the Romanians, no other minority can
use for its official name terms that contain
the word ‘Romanian,’terms derived from it
or terms that sound similar to it, that can
create confusion, indicating a false
Romanian origin.
