Affirmative Action on Candidates From the
Designated Slums
This is an
affirmative
action aimed
at achieving
parity for less
privileged from
the informal
settlements in
access for
education.
This is in
addition to
those placed
regularly
through merit,
choices and
other criteria.
An additional
270 were
placed into
national and
extra county
schools of
their choice by
slums
affirmative
action in 2023.
Affirmative action
was also applied
on merit for
students from
designated slums
in Nairobi,
Mombasa
Nakuru, Uasin
Gishu, Kisumu,
Kiambu and
Nyeri

• Counties with inadequate capacity to absorb their
candidates- Nairobi, Kajiado, Narok, Baringo, Kilifi,
Kwale, Tana River and Mombasa, - Bring to the
attention of stakeholders to look for long lasting
solution.
• Joining instructions with unapproved requirements
– Exercise books, pangas, brooms, dictionaries,
Kamusi among others. Approve all joining
instructions before submission to MOE HQ
• Instructions to buy uniforms from specified
distributors and shops against the Competition
Authority of Kenya (CAK) regulations

issues will be
linked with
their UPI
numbers

staff will be listed
in NEMIS as shall
be provided

Matters pertaining to students fees payment, class attendance and disciplinary issues will be linked with their UPI numbers

RDEs, CDEs and SCDEs and Principals continued Ensure compliance and adherence to authorized policies and circular's on fees structures, student disciplinary procedures, respect of freedom of worship , drugs and substance abuse in institutions of basic education and readmission of girls affected by teenage pregnancies among others. RDEs ,CDEs and SCDEs to approve request for change of placement for Extra, County and Subcounty schools respectively. CDEs to sanction any request for change of placement down the categorization.
