 1973 promoted to manager working across several stores within the group including
acting manager at their new flagship store in Glasgow.

o Finance (including managing budgets, financial projections, cash handling, wages and

lighting and compering solutions to the entertainment industry. Catering for all manner of
events and occasions, Cairn Entertainment was the principal provider of sound and lighting
equipment to;
 The ten day Wigtown Book Festival for 5 years,
 The Dumfries and Galloway Relay for Life Annual Event for 6 years,
 The Isle of Whithorn Food and Crafts fair – Hamefairin,
 Sound and lighting equipment and technician services to the Goldfish Theatre Company.
This included the 2012 tour of Scotland for a production of ‘Six Black Candles’ and for the
Edinburgh Fringe production that year of ‘Singing He’s No a Billy I’m a Tim’.

2013/14 WIGTOWN BOOK FESTIVAL
Box Office and Volunteer Driver Supervisor
Contracted by Wigtown Festival Company from July to October 2014 to:
 Devise and install ticketing IT solutions and management of the box office, both on-line
and by telephone and in person.
 Managing the volunteers working within that environment
 Co-ordinating the 30 strong group of volunteer drivers providing the 400 trips required
for the events authors and guests.
 Provided the technology and systems for the internet radio station Radio Wigtown which
broadcast daily to high acclaim and the technology to run the Festival ‘pop-up’ Cinema.
1992 – 2015 VOLUNTARY WORK
 Volunteer and chairman of Radio Lollipop at Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Yorkhill,
Glasgow (1992 – 1998), which included fundraising to build new play facility and
coordinating a UK wide fundraising effort to raise £250,000 for the parent charity.
 Director / Trustee of registered charity Isle Futures (Isle of Whithorn) from 2003 – 2012
 Chairman from 2007 – 2012
 Managed Hamefairin’ event from 2006 – 2010
 Installed all sound and cinema equipment within St Ninian’s Hall, Isle of Whithorn.
 Prepared numerous successful funding bids for Isle Futures and other community groups
during this period, culminating in the successful £1m bid for current project. This included
financial projections for 6 years, staffing matrix, business plan and development of usage
for 6 years.
 Was vice chairman of ‘Keep Wigtown Bay Natural’ pressure group which successfully
stopped large scale windfarm development in Wigtown Bay.
 Underwent college course (at own expense) and thereafter obtained personal licence and
successfully operated licensed bars for the benefit of Isle Futures for 2 years
 Underwent college course, funded by Isle Futures, becoming a qualified portable appliance
tester which has saved the charity annual costs and has benefited other charitable groups
in the area.
 Led a board of trustees who have been recognised at Scottish and National level for
excellence in rural enterprise.
 Oversaw a 300% increase in usage of St Ninian’s Hall from management takeover in 2008
to 2012.
 Developed successful networks which resulted in the facility being used by external
providers for their events, such as Wigtown Book Festival and the Dumfries and Galloway
Film Festival.
 Sourced a programme of Arts events for the venue of all genres.
 Voluntarily provided sound, lighting and compering for 24 hour Relay for Life events for
