AEM Role
As a lead Front End Developer I was tasked with developing AEM components. Sometimes these
needed to be generic and able to be adapted per domain or isolated as custom items for a specific
domain.Eachpresentedunique challenges.IwouldworkinanAgileteam withuserstories,testcases
and designs creatingoradaptingETC clientlibscontainingCSSandJS files.

The componentswouldthenbe developedandcheckedlocallyagainstdesigns,userstoriesandtest
cases. Othercomponentregressionwasalsotestedfor.
Various browsers, breakpoints and mobile devices (using ghostlab – which was my initiative) were
tested. Thiswasa lengthyprocessbutpaiddividendsdue tolackof bugsand regressionafterrelease
to environments.
I employed Ajax to ‘pull on request’ large libraries for little used components such as Hi-Charts and
orgcharts and Galleries –if requiredonloadthe large JSfileswere pulledinandthencached.
SASS was adopted to support AEM builds and sometimes Gruntfilesto run Sprite image production
witha sprite mixininthe SASS.
I would often pair with Java Programmers to solve issues where a joint solution was required but
neitherhavingenoughskill tocoverbothhalvesof the development.

My first 6 months were spent working on pure CSS for the (bespoke) Allianz Quote and buy Java
platformsoftware forcar home as well asAllianzpartners(VWBMWSkodaEtc)
AfterthisI spent1 year usingJavascript,CSS,HTML and Adobe contribute workingonstaticintranet
and internetsites.
I was also involved with creating some bespoke ASP / VB Script & Javascript to deliver client
requirementsforformsanddocumentmanagement.
After2012 Javabecame the defaultsupportedtechnologyandall VBscriptwasdropped.
AEM wasintroducedfollowedalmostimmediatelybyV5.6
I wasinvolvedatthispointoninall migrationworkof AllianzsitesandAEMcomponents,bespoke raw
html & newcomponentdevelopment.
Agile methodologywasusedforeach projectwithtypicallyaBA, a PM, a Client,4 to 6 designersand
Front EndDevelopers,2to4 backendJavaDevelopers(usuallyinIndia)

A scriptwas handcodedto allow1 to the leftand 2 to the rightof the active slide.
