with horticultural LEDs and assisted with client trials. Responded to sales and technical inquiries via email and
phone. Continual research of new advances to the field. Provided LED lighting layout recommendations for each
client with software (DiaLux). Applications ranged from vertical farms, greenhouses, home conservatories, living
walls, research facilities, home-growers, and Cannabis cultivators. (December 2014-August 2015)
Cherry Capital Foods, Traverse City, MI Quality Control Specialist for a Michigan-made food wholesaler. Daily
inspection of produce, proteins, value-added products. Maintained data on spoilage rates, cooler temperatures, lot
numbers. Assisted in data transfer from QuickBooks to Edible software. Contacted corresponding managers in
Purchasing Department regarding inventory and/or quality issues. (May 2014-November 2014)
TLC Hydroponics, Traverse City, MI Project manager and coordinator of research and development for indoor
vertical hydroponic vegetable production. JT “Chip” Hoagland and Evan Smith organized the start of this project.
Worked with prototype machine designed for indoor agriculture. Focus of project on LED lighting options,
automation, proper nutrient management, monitoring plant health, and species/varietal trials. (July 2013-November
2014)
The North Carolina Arboretum Germplasm Repository, Asheville, NC Worked with director Dr. Joe-Ann
McCoy and chemist Dr. James Lyles primarily on plant and endophyte extracts for medicinal potential. Created
SOPs and maintained MSDS for department. Maintained experimental plots, labeled and recorded accession
numbers, properly stored extracts and vouchers, and assisted chemist with transferring extracts. Prepared HPTLC
plates by hand and with Camag Linomat. Analysis of plates under different light regimes to determine botanical
identity. Community outreach with Cherokee Tribal Nation, creation of traditional herbal medicines herbarium for
education. (March 2012-June 2013)
Mountain Horticultural Crops Research and Extension Center, Fletcher, NC Paid internship with NC State
University Soil Science Department. Supervised by Dr. Ron Gehl. Obtained and processed soil and tissue samples
for variety of crops including apples, blackberries, tobacco, and perennial grasses. Activities include measured
experimental plots, planted crops, applied fertilizers, harvested crops, organized and labeled samples, and plot
maintenance. (Summer of 2010)
Buncombe County Schools, Enka High School, Candler, NC Worked as student tutor. Duties included helping
students with homework, following progress, creating reports of students for teachers. (August 2006-June 2007)
