Kavinsky decided to return to a 1980s style after realizing the market was saturated with French electro and nu disco remixes. He markets himself as reminiscent of 1980s film soundtracks and wears dark sunglasses during live performances. The song "Nightcall" was featured in the title sequence of the 2011 film Drive, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, as well as in the soundtrack for The Lincoln Lawyer. Kavinsky distributes his records on vinyl and CD sold at most music shops, and his songs are often featured on movie soundtracks like Drive.
