1) The Anasazi people lived in Kane County, Utah as far back as the 1200s, evidenced by their tools and the remaining Defiance House. 2) Mormon settlers like Jacob Hamblin first arrived in 1858 but were forced to leave by Native Americans, though Hamblin worked to establish peace. 3) Kane County features towering sandstone cliffs, deep canyons, plateaus, mountains and lots of sand, with many rivers draining into the Colorado River including the former Glen Canyon now covered by Lake Powell.
