The Parijat tree is considered divine in Hindu mythology. It is one of four trees known as Kalpavriksha that provide sustenance. The rare Parijat tree located in Kintur village, Uttar Pradesh is notable for being the tree brought from heaven by Arjuna and given to Kunti according to the Mahabharata. Efforts have been made by the Uttar Pradesh government to preserve the large tree and protect it from insects through a committee of scientists studying the soil and insects affecting the plant. The tree is now maintained by the Uttar Pradesh forest department and protected as a reserve property.
