It’s home-buying’s busiest season of the year, and today’s buyers are more discerning than ever. What are 2020 home buyers on the hunt for? They want: • Large, open kitchens with islands and bar seating • Classic, easy-to-clean wood and laminate flooring • Durable quartz, granite, and marble countertops • Spacious closets and plenty of storage space • Stainless steel or all black appliances • White, grey or light-colored cabinetry • Cover front and back patios, decks and other outdoor areas for entertaining If you’re considering putting your home on the market, you might think about a quick renovation or two to add value before listing the property.
- 2. COMPLETE HOUSEHOLD TASKS FOR DAD THIS FATHER’S DAY In addition to being the go-to source of advice and wisdom, dads and father figures are often famous for their practical, handy skills. If you live nearby, consider giving back to Dad this year by offering to complete a pesky household project for him – or plan a day to work on a tedious task around the house together. Here are a few ideas of household projects that would make Dad happy, whether he’s sitting back and relaxing or helping out side- by-side. YARD CARE Offer to spruce up Dad’s yard by mowing the lawn, weeding plant beds, and watering any plants or flowers that are out for the summer. BUILDING FURNITURE If there is a piece of furniture Dad has been waiting to refurbish, propose doing the dirty work – think sanding, sealing or painting. If he has been meaning to assemble a new item, suggest collaborating to build it. Teamwork (socially distanced, of course!) is both practical and safe when it comes to heavy lifting and configuring small details, like avoiding scraping walls or stripping screws. STAINING AND PAINTING Some dads may consider staining the deck or painting interior walls to be downright tedious – some could even say it’s like watching paint dry. Offer to stain or paint the parts of Dad’s house showing wear and tear. Even the gesture of touching up paint on the exterior or painting a clean coat on interior baseboards is a huge help – and makes a noticeable difference on the overall appearance of a home. DEEP CLEANING THE GARAGE The garage is a well-known hotspot for mess and clutter. For some people – perhaps Dad – it’s a storage space for their favorite belongings or exercise equipment. Go through the garage together to speed up the process of de-cluttering. You may find memorabilia along the way that makes you both nostalgic. Setting up a complex piece of technology If you’ve treated Dad to a new high-tech gadget, or he’s bought one for himself, offer to help set it up. Items like a new TV, printer, smartphone or home speaker system may be complicated to install, especially for those who are less tech-savvy. HELPING WITH THAT LINGERING MISCELLANEOUS TASK Is there some other task around the house that Dad is always saying he will get around to? Suggest finally tackling it together. Completing a household project for Dad – or lending a helping hand – is a unique way to show your appreciation and celebrate Father’s Day. Grab a hammer, paint brush and lawn mower – it’s time to lend Dad a helping hand.
