Judaism is an ancient monotheistic religion that originated in West Asia during the Bronze Age. Abraham is considered the founder of Judaism. God entered into a covenant with Abraham, promising him numerous descendants and land, in exchange for Abraham's devotion. Abraham's wife Sarah was originally barren but God promised she would bear a son and become the "mother of nations," despite her doubts. The Torah contains the religion's most important scriptures including the first five books of Moses and the 613 commandments. The Talmud is also a highly significant text containing the history, laws, and beliefs of Judaism and guidance on ethical traditions.
