spoke to Sidney Nemes of J&R Kosher, who
gets his meat directly from the
slaughterhouse and has an in-house Menaker
(religious porger) who does all the cutting,
salting and rinsing to remove the non-kosher

Nemes told the Journal de Montreal that meat
scandals are nothing new, noting that in past
butchers have tried passing off horse meat as
beef. He suggested that the best way to
ensure that you are eating what is

my butcher shop.”
Nemes added that the rabbi locks the
doors when he leaves and it would be
impossible for any substitution of meat to take
place.
For those who were thinking of going
kosher, now may be a good time to cut
down on non-kosher meat because when
it comes to kosher meat, you know that
you are getting what you purchased.
When even
the Journal de Montreal
recommends you eat
kosher…
