The document discusses different options for moving to cloud-based business intelligence (BI), including infrastructure as a service (IaaS) and software as a service (SaaS). With IaaS, IBM provides servers hosted in their infrastructure that the client maintains. With SaaS, IBM handles installation, maintenance, and administration, removing the need for on-site resources. The presentation compares the administration and costs of each option to on-premise BI, and provides details on migrating between models and the SaaS setup process. It aims to help organizations understand the journey to the cloud.

4. Background
• One of the first to IBM Cognos Analytics v11 Installations
• IBM Cognos Analytics on IBM SoftLayer (IaaS)
• Migrated to SaaS
Challenges
• Large enterprise for a national company
• Four environments (Dev, QA, UAT, Production)
• Load balancers
Benefits of Cognos Analytics
• Ease of use for business
• Reduction of manual data processing
• Reduced on-site infrastructure costs

Architecture
• 2 Gateways
• 4 Application Servers
• 1 Content Manager
• 1 Standby Content
Manager
• 2 Load Balancers

Typical On-premise Installation
• Infrastructure maintenance and costs
• Load balancers
• Backups (servers and content stores)
• Server patching, maintenance
• Administration and performance tuning for
the Cognos install
• Troubleshooting server issues and Cognos
install
• Requires Cognos administrator with
knowledge of complete install, configure,
administering of the application
• Maintenance and administration of the
servers, VM’s, infrastructure

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
• IBM provides the servers based on client provided
specifications for architecture and host in their
infrastructure (Softlayer)
• VPN tunnel setup to communicate between client and IBM
• Options to have Virtual Machines (VM’s) and/or Bare
Metal servers (physical servers)
• IBM Netscaler load balancers in Softlayer (if needed)
• Client is responsible for installation and configuration
• Administration and performance tuning
• Backups (servers and content stores)
• Server patching, maintenance
• No capital costs of server purchases, VM host
• Still requires Cognos administrator with knowledge of
complete install, configure, administering of the
application
• Maintenance and administration of the servers

Software as a Service (SaaS)
• Installation and configuration of Cognos done by IBM
• Any necessary performance tuning performed by IBM
• No system administrator role, IBM function
• Directory, report, library, mobile, server administration
• Public cloud by default, can be changed to internal
only
• SSL encrypted
• One instance includes Prod & Pre-Prod
• Shared deployment folder between Prod & PreProd
• Tickets for deployments if more than one instance
• Troubleshooting by IBM
• Upgrade to new release with request to IBM
• POC environment

Software as a Service (SaaS) cont’d
• Framework Manager instructions and download
provided (SSL encrypted)
• IBM provides the instructions and certificates
• DQM only, 64 bit
• Currently no SSO but is high priority this year
• Offloading infrastructure deployment and
maintenance to cloud provider frees up staff to work
on other things
• Requires limited Cognos administration, no install,
configuration necessary

SaaS Setup
• Welcome letter from IBM containing information about the onboarding process
and the links for your environments
• Sections in the letter need to be filled out and returned to IBM
• IBM and network team work together to setup VPN tunnel along with necessary
settings for communicating with any on-premise application (Active Directory)
• IBM performs Cognos configuration based on information provided (security,
email, type(s) of datasource(s))
• Configured with a temp LDAP, use this to Setup administrator access
• IBM removes temporary LDAP
• Migrate Cognos content

Migration
On-premise to IaaS
• Move backup of content store
• Deployments
• Image files
• Any other custom files
On-premise or IaaS to SaaS
• Open ticket with IBM for migration
• Deployments only
• Image files

A few housekeeping things before we get started:
All of your lines will remain muted throughout the webinar.
We will work to reserve time for a Q & A session at the end of the webinar so please submit your questions via the chat window at any time and we will address them at the end.
This webinar is being recorded. The recording and slides will be available to you after the webinar.
